Usually its the old uncles who have never played any sports who will cry father cry mother of kelong after losing $10 on a bet. In their pea brain, they think fixing a game is easy. In all honesty, if you have played football or any sport, you will know that the outcome of winning or losing is very unpredictable. A lot depends on form, luck and a combination of many factors. It's not easy to fix a match at this level. Maybe at lower levels, throwing away matches is easier. First of all, world-class players earn millions so there is no incentive to fix games. Even if the want to, football is a team game and everyone must be on the same page. They have reached a point where having glory is more important than financial gains. Secondly, the eyes of everyone is on their every move. To work on a penalty and then to purposely miss it is ludicrous. I remember there is this one match during the Suzuki Asean Cup years ago when Indonesia purposely scored an own goal to avoid Vietnam. That was quickly spotted out and they were penalized. To do something like that during the World Cup when more than a billion people are watching? I don't think so.
