We have heard it all before.

You say you are sorry. And that you share our sadness.

But you will return to your families and sleep easy tonight, while we mourn a tragic loss. Tomorrow morning, you will not have to make the dreadful trip to the mortuary to identify the lifeless and mangled body of a loved one. How can you say that you share our sadness? You do not understand our grief.

Yet you ever-so eloquently say that you are “very saddened by the loss.” But to you, the two young lives lost today are just a statistic; A number that you have to account for in the face of public outrage. Just collateral damage. Soon, you will forget. Your career goes on. Your life goes on.

To us they were beloved sons, brothers, cousins, nephews, friends. Brilliant human beings who had promising futures ahead of them.

Honest young men who woke up one morning, had breakfast with their families, and eagerly showed up for work. Brave young men who, a few hours later in the hot midday sun, responded to a train track fault only to be struck by a train. They followed your orders only to be betrayed.

As Muslims we try to live life right, to be kind to others, and live life knowing that one day we will return to our Maker. We do not fear or resent death.

What we resent are your attempts to clear yourselves of any fault, insisting that you have observed all the standard operating procedures. If you did everything right, then your standard operating procedures must be flimsy.

Your carefully maneuvered words make us wonder: are you attempting to shift the blame to the deceased? You know it is easy to blame someone who can no longer speak for himself.

Instead of being so quick to protect your interests, seek the humanity deep within you to acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them to ensure that this tragedy does not happen to any one else’s son. Will you take responsibility? Or will your public relations team continue to craft words to protect you from blame?

At this point, the families are grieving at the loss of a beloved. But grief will soon turn into anger.

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

The safety systems and processes plus management behavior better be up to scratch as it will be under tremendous scrutiny. If they do a 'SGH' or even a 'SAF' coverup, there's going to be a big public outcry! Maybe Chee can capitalize on this!

It would have lasted much longer if the transport ministar had updated everyone with his newly achieved milestones on the downtown line.

SMRT TIMELINE OF EVENTS

The transport operator's timeline of events is as follows:

At 8.08am*on Tuesday (Mar 22), a signalling condition monitoring device installed along the tracks near Pasir Ris MRT Station registered a warning.

At 10.54am, authorisation was granted for the Permanent Way team and the Signal team to move down from the station platform, cross the track, and access the maintenance walkway in order to proceed to the location of the device.

The 15 members comprised 1 engineer, 5 assistant engineers, 5 technical officers and 4 trainees. Led by an experienced assistant engineer, they moved in a single file along the maintenance walkway (of approximately 0.5 metre width) beside the track toward the device location. They followed the safety procedure of walking in the direction facing oncoming train traffic.

The two staff that died - Nasrulhudin and Muhammad Asyraf - were following immediately behind the lead assistant engineer.

Before the team is allowed to step back on to the trackway, the following procedure must be carried out: The team must coordinate with the Signal unit at the station for oncoming trains to be brought to a stop and to ensure that no trains enter the affected sector. SMRT*records do not show that this procedure took place, it said.

Pasir Ris MRT station is a terminal station with two platforms. Trains arriving at Pasir Ris can berth at either platform. Trains can cross from one track to the other as they approach the station. In this accident, the train moving in automatic mode was routed to Platform 2. When the train captain saw staff on the track, he immediately applied emergency brakes but was unable to prevent the accident.

The accident took place at*11.08am*and was immediately reported to the Operations Control Centre

the only way for victims to be struck by train in this illustration is when victims get out of 50-cm walkway just before reaching junction box, jump over 3rd rail, and land on tracks. most likely victims tried to bypass lead engineer to reach junction box. that's the only explanation. otherwise they might be suicidal. no other way to explain it.
