Two motorists who did not stop to render assistance to accident victims were handed jail sentences on Wednesday.

In one case, cabby Khoo Gee Teck did not stop after his taxi hit a motorbike on the Bukit Timah Expressway on Nov 2, 2010 - despite his passenger urging him to do so.

Two policemen in an unmarked police car, who witnessed the accident, gave chase.

They tried to get him to stop by sounding the horn and flashing the headlights, but the 72-year-old cabby turned into Mandai Road.

On Wednesday, Khoo was sentenced to eight weeks' jail for causing grievous hurt to motorcyclist Lim Seng Cheang by driving negligently and for failing to render assistance to the victim.

Mr Lim, 62, a Malaysian, suffered injuries that included skull and rib fractures.

He was hospitalised at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, but his family insisted on transferring him to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru despite doctors' warnings not to move him. He died of complications on Nov 15 that year.

She did not know her car had hit a cyclist? Really?
Surely she must have noticed some commotion even if she did not realise she had hit somebody.
