I think they just copied the concept of super mario, change the characters and then proudly proclaimed to the world that we have achieved the technology of Japanese in the 80s:eek:

SINGAPORE: Action-packed and educational video game genres are tipped to be the next big trend in the games industry, according to the makers of Page Chronica.

Page Chronica is the first made-in-Singapore game for PlayStation.

It is a game developed by a small start-up firm with the help of Nanyang Polytechnic.

A team of nine at Red Hare Studios took about two years to create Page Chronica.

The game is aimed at children aged between 10 and 14.

Page Chronica is a game that is not just all words and no action.

It combines both elements and tests players' reflexes and word-forming skills.

It is a unique concept.

The makers of Page Chronica say the trend of weaving in educational elements into action games is definitely on the rise.

Red Hare Studios producer Dr Koh Wee Lit is confident such games will be a big player in education.

He said: "We can see that there are kids who like the game concept and the game itself. It'll take time to educate parents...that games can be for good (purposes). Once this concept gets across - it will take some time - I think we will see a great use of games in the school system."

Page Chronica was developed with the help of Nanyang Polytechnic's Games Resource Centre.

PlayStation games are mostly created by developers in the US and Europe, and rarely in Asia.

Mr Daniel Tan, the director of Nanyang Polytechnic's School of Interactive & Digital Media, said Page Chronica is a big step forward for Singapore.

"It is not easy to create a game of this nature especially on a PlayStation platform, because it was only very recently that young start-up companies can get access to this platform. So, that is a significant milestone for games to be launched," he said.

Mr Tan said the games industry in Singapore is still relatively new. But with resources and training made available in Singapore, he is confident that for young talents, the game has just begun.

Page Chronica will be launched on 21 November.
