SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth who is believed to be involved in a series of theft cases involving taxis.
Between November last year and January this year, several theft cases involving taxis were reported in Tampines and Simei housing estates.
Police said that in most cases, the taxis were broken into and cash stolen.
In some instances, the culprit also drove away the taxis when the spare keys were left inside the vehicles. All the stolen taxis were recovered the following day.
Through extensive enquiries and investigation, the police managed to establish the identity of the suspect, who was arrested on Monday night in the vicinity of Tampines Street 21.
The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday, and if found guilty may be jailed up to seven years and fined.
