15 years ago on this day, five 5 young Spore dragon boat paddlers drowned which I think would not have happened with proper trainning.

Can you recall this tragic incident, I believe with proper training and arriving a few days earlier to understand the condition of the Mekong river should an accident like their boat capsize or paddlers threw overboard while training or racing could have saved them, never underestimate the very strong current of the Mekong and its surrounding rivers, I have been there a few times and have not seen any villagers swimming in the rivers before because I believe they knew the danger.. many times when we Sporeans went holidaying or traveling abroad we always assume we act like Mr know all and nothing will happen. I very nearly died in NZ when I lost control of my rented car around the bend thinking the signage and road condition is the same as my country, it veer off the road and went down the ravine when God intervene cause my time is not up yet.

RIP to all of them.

Many Singaporeans died overseas while on holiday due to ignorance & always assume they are the better or smarter as compared to the locals.

The last time I was staying at a friend's place near the border of Vietnam- Cambodia was in October 2018.

Crossing over the bridge to Cambodia by motorcycle.

This is one of the illegal casinos owned by the warlords at another border overlooking the Mekong River. Went in to play baccarat, and there was a cockfighting arena where punters watch and bet.

A Vietnam military outpost overlooking Cambodia.

The strong current and murky water and you can swim across to Cambodia along these small rivers.

Staying there was like back in the sixties.

U cross over from Vietnam Tay Ninh Province via a town called Bavet to Cambodia. You reach 7,8 casinos. Pay 100 Usd for the chips u can stay at casino hotel for free.

Was it really necessary to publish details of their lives, which schools they went to, what did they study, marital status, whether they were the only child etc?

What was that? A posthumous job interview?

What were the Shitty Times propagandists thinking?

Friends in the dragonboat community told me the rowers were swept under the floating pontoon when the boat capsized. A few got themselves out but some were just unlucky. Very sad when young people die like that

First time for me reading about this case. I guess 15 years ago, I must have missed this big news while out of Singapore

My uncle also wasn't aware of this news at all.
By now they would also become a uncle.
Tragic case as compared to the tj pagar incident.
