Police have arrested eleven men and four women aged between 25 and 82 for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On Thursday evening at about 6pm, an island-wide operation covering Ang Mo Kio, Edgefield Walk, Eunos Crescent, Redhill Close, Toa Payoh, Boon Lay and Bukit Batok housing estates resulted in the arrest of the fourteen suspects.

Police believe the fourteen opened bank accounts and gave their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) to loansharking syndicates to facilitate their illegal activities.

One of the suspects, a 53-year-old man, is also believed to have assisted the loansharking syndicates by distributing flyers offering financial loans. The police found and seized stacks of flyers which were in his possession.
