Since when is the vote a secret? If I recall, you get a ballot after you show your ic. The ballot has a serial number on it, and they note the serial number when they issue it to you. So, if they want to find out, they can always look for the serial number of the ballot assigned to you, and see how you voted.

I get what you mean but I hope you mean it figuratively. Don't literally do that. Just mark a clear cross, fold up the paper and slot it into the box. All extra writings and markings will cause extra work for the counting agent to save your vote as the PAP side will want to void it. Don't make it harder than it already is. There're better ways to vent your anger.

Same as Ramseth said. I am really surprised u said that. In fact these are what the PAP camps would want the electorate to "believe" that it is not secret so that many will vote in FEAR of PAP.

The serial number is needed for the possibility of technicality and election fraud if any, then they can trace each slips to a valid voter.

However, it seems that it is only in Singapore that the officers will literally "SHOUT" your IC number just as in the Army and allow their voice to echoes through the hall. And this is not done once but TWICE.

My theory is that this was done to intentionally create an environment of FEAR just as in ARMY when you IC no is shouted out. This I believe is a sociological intimidation that subtly "suggests" that you are being watched and "they" will know IC no "SXXXXXXXK" name "TAN AH KOW" is going to vote.

Sometime I seriously wonder, how these returning officers, civil servants work with a clear conscious believing that they are serving the people or that they are serving their direct paymaster while the citizens are the indirect paymaster.

I really wished that there will be a wind of change this coming election that will SO suddenly sweep the PAP off their feet. either former win but with very low margin say maybe 55% to get them down on their feet from their celestial palace or opposition wins with a narrow margin of 51%!

Either way, I think opposition MUST always go in with a mind to govern! and not this time we win a few more seats then next time then we gun for the whole government. That's LOSER! Seriously the by-election strategy Opposition took many elections back did indeed put more than usual number of opposition MP in the parliament but I think electorate would like to see an opposition SERIOUS enough to form the next government with/without experience. At least by aiming for the UNIVERSE they may get the sky instead of aiming for the mountain top but fall badly into the ocean floor.

Tens of Thousands are going to be needed.

They have to be daring and aggressive to confront against any irregularities and confident to blow whistle. They have to learn technique to deal with red tapes and bureaucracies. Fear not to make troubles.

At each place experienced persons need to be there.

They have to alert counting agents who have to be the sharp and aggressive persons, who are fearless and tactful, to go to any place where there is suspected irregularities.

Members of public and voters must help. Must capture evidence and dare to expose.

Unfortunately, its is not as secret as it should be or as other countries' process should be. This is just one of a multi pronged strategy to put fear into those so that they have to vote PAP. ALong with this is other intimidation tactics like "If you vote in oppo in your constituency, your estate will be the last to receive upgrades/services, etc."

This is what I am saying. Nobody should know who you are when you step up to vote. To be truly free, the election has to be monitored by a group like amnesty international or something like that.

The more polling stations, the more refine they can track % of votes for/against them for a particular precint. You may find 'selective' emblock right up to blk level.

Or in the next election, for reason of of convenience to voters, they may just come to your doorstep and record your vote for you!

Worst, since PAPa has always been voted back into office, thhey can do away from election for the convenience of the voters. Should you want to vote otherw than PAPa, just call them to register your vote. Very much like opt-out system which they so used to as in HOTA.

MY GOSH! We all know its is not a "TOTALLY" secret ballot but it some sense the secrecy is still being kept! As those who are educated know that though if the PAP want to trace the identity of the person who voted against them, they can but they MUST sift through mountains of ballot papers before they could link one to you. What they need is just a percentage of each precinct. Imagine you go around the market and tell those aunties uncles not educated and tell them your vote not secret la PAP will know YOU la, THEY WILL VOTE IN FEAR! It is a mammoth task to trace each votes wasting precious time and resources of the state just to trace YOU? You Osama Bin Laden? So as far as a responsible citizen should do is to "believe" and propagate that "believe" our vote is Secret!


Other than that the rest are all sociological intimidation by the ruling party to vote in favor of them.


And unless we stand out of these indifference, I believe this will tilt the balance in favor of opposition.

My gut feel is maybe 40% hardcore PAP, 35% hardcore Opposition. Those "indifference" or apolitical often vote in favor of those in power even though they dislike the PAP. And unless this group of sleeping giants wake up, the scale, I think, will also tip in favor of PAP.

so you're suggesting PAP can open the sealed ballot boxes without detection to find out who voted for whom.
