Teen student murdered

A 14-YEAR-OLD student was found dead with a stab wound in her torso in a Woodlands flat early on Thursday.

Police were alerted to the death at Block 852 Woodlands Sreet 83 at around 2.50am.

The victim, a Chinese girl, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at around 3.06am.

A 51 year-old woman, believed to be the girl's mother, has been arrested.

SINGAPORE: A 14-year-old girl, Eunice Chew Li Xin, was found dead in a one-room rental unit in Woodlands early Thursday morning. She had been stabbed.

Her mother, 51-year-old Singaporean Goh Hai Eng, was arrested and charged with the murder on Thursday afternoon.

Neighbours at Block 852 in Woodlands Street 83 reported a commotion just after 2am.

Mr Ang, a neighbour, said: "Around 2 to 2.15am, I heard glass breaking and someone dragging something along the corridor. I didn't know which unit it was. Then around 4am, there was a male standing and talking on the phone. I don't know who that was."

The police said they received a call at around 2.50am. They found the 14-year-old in her room, with a stab wound on her body. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene at 3.06am.

Neighbours said the duo had moved into the flat about six months to a year ago and kept largely to themselves. - CNA/vm
