Man, 65, jailed for paid sex with minor

SINGAPORE: A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to eight weeks' jail for paid sex with a minor.

Koh Sui Kim had admitted to paying the 17-year-old Chinese girl S$60 for sex in May this year.

In sentencing, District Judge Low Wee Ping took into account that Koh had recently suffered a stroke.

He also noted that Koh was hoping to attend his son's wedding in December.

The minor in this vice ring was forced into prostitution by Chinese national Tang Huisheng.

The 37-year-old, who made her have sex with 100 men on about 150 occasions, was jailed six years in October -- for bringing the minor into Singapore for prostitution and living off her earnings, among other things. - CNA/nd

Judge moved by filial son of cleaner in paid underage sex case

SINGAPORE - A judge was moved by the son of a 65-year-old stroke victim and cleaner who accompanied his father to every court session when he was charged for having sex with an underage Chinese prostitute.

In court, the judge commended his son's actions, saying that Xu Ruijin has a good son, and that he should appreciate him, said Shin Min Daily News.

Xu was arrested this year on June 1 for having sex with a seventeen-year-old underage prostitute and subsequently charged in court. For his offence, he was sentenced to jail for eight weeks. After pleading guilty to the crime, he requested the judge not to sentence him to jail due to health reasons.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Xu had suffered two bouts of stroke this year, one before the incident and another after. The mobility on one side of his body is impaired and he is still in the process of recovery.

The judge pointed out in court that Xu was not aware that the underage prostitute was brought into the trade against her will. If not for his poor health, he said that the 65-year-old would be charged together with the other men and face the jail term of 12 weeks. Due to his strokes, Xu currently needs help in his daily activities.

After considering the seriousness of the case and the appeal made by his lawyer to reduce the jail term, the judge agreed to sentence him to eight months of imprisonment. During the ruling, the judge said to him: "You are lucky to have a son like that. Everytime you appear in court, including today, your son will accompany you - which is very touching. You must appreciate him and not repeat your mistake."

After the judge passed the judgment and statement, Xu's son who was standing at defendant's side, looked red in the eyes and even glanced at his father from time to time.

Plead for mercy: Hope that he can attend his son's wedding

Xu, 65, pleaded for mercy this morning in court, saying that his son is getting married on Dec 21 and that he would like to attend.

The judge said during the ruling that he hopes Xu will look forward to his son's wedding. While he was pleading for mercy, the 65-year-old also brought up his previous stroke conditions. The judge said that there will be trained personnel in jail to take care of him and provide the necessary treatment that he needs.

Filial son: I only have one father, if I don't accompany him, who would?

The 65-year-old cleaner's son said he has to accompany him to court as he only has one father, and his mother has ignored his father after learning about the case. Working in the renovation industry, the only child of Xu has to apply for leave everytime his father appears in court.

He told the Chinese daily: "I only have one father and he brought me up, if I don't come with him, who would?" Though he is worried about his father's two strokes this year, he said his father has to face the consequences for breaking the law.

He also told Shin Min Daily News that he plans to continue living with his parents after he gets married, and plans to visit his father in jail every week. When interviewed, his son said though his father was honest and admitted to the crime, he did not receive any sympathy from his mother.

Till today, his mother has not forgiven his father and is not even willing to speak to him.

71-year-old man jailed for paid sex with minor

SINGAPORE: A 71-year-old housekeeper has been sentenced to 12 weeks' jail for paid sex with a 17-year-old girl.

Lim Chee Seng pleaded guilty to paying the minor $150 for her sexual services in late May this year.

He is the 20th man in the vice ring run by Chinese national Tang Huisheng to be sentenced.

So far, 24 men in the case have been charged.

The minor in the vice ring was forced into prostitution by 37-year-old Tang.

He had made her have sex with 100 men on about 150 occasions.
