12,728 bid for 2,132 flats
By Jessica Cheam

From here, what I see is a lot of fellow brothers and sisters, SINGAPOREANS, helping the HDB pricing shoot up.

I'm not an economist, but when a product is in such huge demand, and whereby the supply is controlled, the pricing is naturally hyped up.

Brothers and Sisters... if everyone start to chiong for these HDB, 100% for sure, the pricing will keep on going up...

I don't think there will be a pricing reduction when this keeps up...

And I am equally puzzled why we could pay so much, and live in debts for very long time.

I thought that debts is not good in the long run?

I thought that debts will bind you like slaves in the long run?

We are in modern society, and our freedom is dictated by our cash savings, and also our acceptable lifestyle...

all in all, the HDB pricing is caused by DEMAND & SUPPLY.

In this case, the SUPPLY is controlled by the HDB

and in this case again, the DEMAND is controlled by the PEOPLE.

so, if we want the HDB pricing to go down, the SUPPLY should be abundant, and at the same time, the DEMAND should not be too high....

are we in the same frequency?

or am I just a crazy Singaporean talking cock, singing song...

Vote more opposition = lower housing prices = less debt = more financial freedom.

Dear Hockbeng,

The question is WHICH OPPOSITION should we vote?

There doesn't seems to be much alternative around....

The monopoly of government by the thunder stick is entrenched for many years.

Any recommendations are welcomed Hockbeng... I'll move to the political section to hear your views.

Any opposition will do. No choice.

I think the devil we dont know is better than the devil we know. This housing shortage and over-population (to maximize GDP) problems will really screw us and our children if something is not done now.

The precious vote is difficult...

Any opposition may be crushed easily... this we all know.

I think I'll go to GOD, when I have to choose another Devil... haha (really).

The housing shortage and over population is no thanks to the easy influx of FTs... by natural birth by Singaporeans, it'll not populate so fast...

The SONS & DAUGHTERS of Singapore are suffering, financially, physically, mentally, and everyone have to work work work to meet ends meet...

everyone is in debts... everyone want to live a good life... now, competed with Ah Tiongs, Ah Banglah, Ah India, Ah Viet, Ah Thai, Ah Malaysia....

what can I say...

From my point of view, there is really no good Opposition that could make any difference... the majority votes in the Parliament will cloud the Opposition.

My thinking is, live as it is, we're all here in this website to growl, and complain, that's my sole selfish intentions, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done...

I, like many SINGAPOREANS just want to vent out my frustration in this fun website...

Housing is a basic necessity and with the easy granting of PRs to foreigners, strong demand is build up while the supply of HDB flats is not being increase to match the strong demand.

The outcome is skyrocketed HDB prices, with new flats' prices chasing after re-sale prices. This is a catch-22 situation for singapore citizens who need a roof over their heads.

Dear ChinKangKor (really, at this Catch 22 situation),

A housing is a basic necessity.

I think SINGAPOREANS' family should be given the PRIORITY in HDB purchasing.

For example, MALE SINGAPOREAN who SERVE NS (must serve NS, may it be cook, clerk, driver, Army, Navy, Air Force, Civil Defense, Police Unit, for a minimum of 2 years) + his wife (may it be PR, or Singaporean, or Other Nationality, say, Vietnamese, Thailand, Malaysian, Chinese MM) Should be given MAXIMUM PRIORITY...

My thinking is, lets take the above criteria as an example.

On a situation when there are 2 person contending for a HDB flat, and 1 person who is a male Singaporean who didn't serve NS, and the other is male Singaporean who served NS.

I believe the one who should get priority SHOULD BE THE MALE SINGAPOREAN who have served NS...

those who didn't serve NS, better get at the back of the line...

since there are so many smart Scholars in HDB, why didn't they come up with a BUBBLE SORT algorithm, which they would have learnt in university C programming courses, and come up with this idea...

As for PR, the PR means Permanent Residence, doesn't mean that they contribute to the NATION, so they should concentrate on buying the expensive Private Housing to help stimulate the Singapore property market, it's perfectly fine, and they need not queue up for the HDB, which is meant for Singaporeans. This I welcome them to buy Private Housing... go go go. But when they queue up for HDB, they should be ranked BEHIND the Male Singaporean + NS served family.

And if the PR really want to get a fair ranking, then they should get SINGAPORE citizenship FIRST!

Meaning to say, Male Citizen + NS served get the first priority, without NS 2nd Priority, PR is 3rd Priority.

for HDB.

But for Private Housing, then whoever have the most bidding, or auction most money gets it.... that's the difference right?

Why we say Government HDB, one comes with subsidy from Governement to reward the Singaporeans, for BEING SINGAPOREANS.

Why we say Private Housing, for the RICH PRs, and RICH Singaporeans, so they should use their money to fight for their Private Homes!

I just hope that the Government remembers the purpose and reason of a HDB... and also remember the purpose of a Private Housing....

Perhaps more of us should be allowed to rent flats from HDB just like what HK is doing. I understand that HK Govt is concentrating on managing Rental Flats only:

http://www.housingauthority.gov.hk/en/residential/prh/housingfamilies/0,,,00.html

If I am not mistaken, some of the poorest people in HK are renting cages to sleep for the night... yes, you heard me right, SMALL CAGES to sleep in...

well, at least they COULD rent small cages....

but in SGP, you cannot rent a 1 room flat even if you COULD afford it!

How about I want to rent a `1 room flat to manage my expenses? just my lifestyle choices?? I don't want 3 room, don't want 4, or 5 room, even I could afford it... can I rent a 1 room flat???

You can't even buy a new 3-room flat if you income is above $3k. Such is the heavily regulated HDB market.
