<!-- story content : start --> THE role of a lawyer in filing claims was raised in the High Court on Wednesday, during the hearing of lawyer Bachoo Mohan Singh, who was convicted of aiding his client to file a false claim in a property transaction. The 60-year-old lawyer still has a chance to convince the Court of Appeal to set aside his 2007 conviction for helping flat-owner Koh Sia Siang in a cashback scheme. The High Court allowed Singh's lawyers, Senior Counsel Ang Cheng Hock and Mr Eugene Thuraisingam, to raise points of law involving public interest to the Court of Appeal regarding the responsibility of a lawyer when a client files such claims. The prosecution had also applied to refer certain questions. In 2007, Singh was sentenced to three months' jail for helping Mr Koh make a false claim that he was selling his five-room Redhill flat for an inflated price of $490,000 - $100,000 more than the actual sale price.
