1 million raised in 2 days......why PAP should be very very afraid

That's why I say the institution of opposition is at stake. I am not a fanboy of Low Sylvia nor Pritam. But the institution of Opposition is far more important and need to be preserved. Otherwise, the mighty PAP will be even more abusive if they have complete monopoly.

You have raised this "institution of opposition is at stake" (and "personalities") several times in the" David vs Goliath" as well as this and various threads.

When I have some time, I will use the phenomenon of an allelopathic tree to explain (in the "David vs Goliath" thread) why such a view is, will be, and have proven to be a problem and is detrimental to the growth of the opposition in Singapore.

That is why in the west there are term limits. Power corrupts & total power totally corrupts. Term limits prevent someone from holding office for too long & creating a dynasty e.g. famiLee business.

LKY may have decided to go into politics with honest intentions:biggrin:. Anything is possible you know:smile: With Sporeans re-electing LKY numerous times, he was able to consolidate his power putting his relatives & kakis into the Spore gov't. Making changes like: closing newspapers who criticised him, gerrymandering, rules on who can run for office, ... etc

WP is still very much needed by the middle ground or working masses sinkie.

An Opposition forms the backbone of democracy. Regardless of how good the government of the day is, there has to be an institution of Opposition present and waiting, developing and hopefully, when a day comes when the government falters, the Opposition is mature enough to take over. That's my simple view...

I agree.
It is bad enough that the ruling government has a very significant majority in the Parliament, to make amendments to the Constitution at its whim and fancy (such as GRC, elected Presidency, and without campaigning for it in the last GE, and without any national referendum, enact the "Reserved Presidential Elections", but worse, to classify an individual whose biological father is Indian, as a Malay), but to have a party Parliament, will definitely not be desirable.

sinkies should support WP. like it or not, they are the only opposition party capable of winning seats in parliament. if WP is finished, that's the end of the opposition in parliament for the foreseeable future. fuck the NCMP scheme. the rest of the opposition need to buck up, work harder and get into parliament by any possible means.

I agreed wholeheartedly :inlove:

But will what you have said wake up the 70%? They seems to be oblivious to what you have mentioned. What are they good for?, the only thing they are good at is complaining. Then come election they vote for the same people, they complain about. Then later, complain again...the cycle continues...

Come the next election...we may see lesser oppositions in parliament, unless I am proved wrong. There maybe only 1 seat in parliament as before & that maybe Hougang. Even with Hougang...the WP is loosing the shine there. We may even end up with a 100% PAP Parliament.

How are we going to wake up the 70%?
