Both Sin Chew Daily and China Press highlighted the case of an obese woman, who had to be transported to a hospital by a lorry because she could not fit into an ambulance.
The dailies reported that eight Civil Defence Department personnel had to carry Tan Li Fang, 42, down from her flat in Singapore after she slipped and fell in the living room at 1am on Saturday. The team, which took 50 minutes to carry her down from her flat on two stretchers, found that she could not fit into the ambulance. They then decided to call in a lorry after getting permission from her family members.
Tan’s brother said his sister, who works as a hairstylist from home, has been suffering from hormonal disorder causing her weight to increase from 180kg previously. “Her legs were swollen on that day and she had difficulty walking. We had planned to send her to a doctor the next morning,” he said.
