What is Subaru in Japanese ? In the bible, it was named the "Seven Sisters".

出生于1948年12月11日，是一位日本大阪出身的音乐家及歌手，在日本以及亚洲音乐界享有盛名并具有影 响力。谷村的歌曲“星”最为人所熟悉，并深受各国人民的喜爱，亦被改编成不同的语言版本，成为不朽的经典。一些歌坛巨星亦演唱过许多他的作品，其中有邓丽君，张学友，罗文，谭咏麟，梅艳芳，关正杰，徐小凤，张国荣 等人。

也许人们还不太了解《星》这首歌的创作初衷，原来这首歌是在谷村新司还未踏上中国国土的情况下，凭借自己的臆想，以中国东北地区的夜色为背景创作出来的。

2010年上海世博会开幕式上，谷村新司为世界人民倾情演唱了《星》。
