Singapore economy was the biggest beneficiary from the Vietnam War for those who haven't realised, Singapore was US supply line and logistics centre. For those who remembered Geylang and Bugis in the early 70s, the clarion call for business is "American ships have docked! Sailors embarked!"

On the bigger scale, it encouraged American MNC investments in Singapore as long as Singapore remain safe from Islamic and Communist idealisms. The oil refinery biz was built up from there and then. The lifeblood supply line to US troops in Vietnam.

Okinawa was Korean Ryukyu and during Ming Dynasty era ceded to the Japanese as both Korea and their backers Ming China felt it worth the sacrifice for peace at the seas. That's pirate behavior on the part of Japanese, hence the term 倭寇。But the Koreans and Chinese had also themselves to blame for their appeasement policy.

At the end of WW2 and Japanese surrender, Korea was divided and too weak to demand Ryukyu (Okinawa) back. The US saw it to their strategic advantage to keep it under Japan where they can base their troops.

I donch care about whether Japan have right to Diaoyudao - I just du lan the astrocities that they commited during WW2 - and so, they don't deserve Diaoyudao, neither do they deserve the 4 islands they are claiming from Russia.

I'm an ethnic Chinese but I try to be objective and fair here. Diaoyutai was ceded to Japan as part of Taiwan after 甲午战争。Japan later redrew it under Okinawa as Senkaku (something like Singapore GRC gerrymandering). After WW2 Japanese surrender, all should be returned to ROC. Since PRC now has the whole of mainland China and ROC has only Taiwan province, the Diaoyutai should rightly belong to ROC on Taiwan.

Since the world had recognised a one China policy, Diaoyutai should belong to PRC in mainland China. Japan have no rights to claim it.

Senkaku issue got nothing to do with the first sino-japanese war (1895).

Senkaku was absorbed into Okinawa during 1895 before the treaty of Shimonoseki which Qing dynasty ceded in actual treaty words ( 台湾全岛及所有附属各岛屿。 ) with Diaoyutai not mentioned at all. The terms Taiwan and it's islands were vague and interpreted differently from both sides. China insisted it meant Taiwan and Diaoyutai, Japan said Senkaku wasn't included as part of Taiwan, ROC didn't demand Senkaku back with Taiwan in 1945.

China claims to Diaoyutai was Ming/Qing territorial maps including the islands as part of empire and courts sea voyage books showing they discovered the islands centuries before Japan but no historical records to prove they actually possessed or governed the islands.

based on that, Japan/China both had legitimate claims to Senkaku islands.
