ESM Goh to visit Saudi Arabia and India
Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong will visit Saudi Arabia from January 6 to 11 to renew his ties with key Saudi leaders and to meet prominent figures in the Saudi financial services sector.
Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said ESM Goh will meet Vice-Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr Mohammed Amin Ahmad Jefri, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Er Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi, Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah and other Saudi leaders.
He will also meet Chairman of the National Commerce Bank Sheikh Abdullah Salem Bahamdan, Chairman of the Riyad Bank Rashed Abdulaziz Al-Rashed and President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani.
MFA said Mr Goh and the Saudi leaders are expected to discuss regional developments in the wake of the "Arab Spring", as well as ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Mr Goh will travel to Hyderabad in the Indian state of Andra Pradesh to deliver the keynote address at the Annual Partnership Summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on January 12.
This is the third time Mr Goh has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the CII Partnership Summit, which is one of CII's premier events attended by political leaders, industrialists and businessmen from India and other countries.
He will visit Mumbai in the Indian state of Maharashtra from January 12 to 14.
He will meet the Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan, as well as prominent personalities in the financial services sector, such as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) U K Sinha to discuss developments in India's financial hub.
MFA said Mr Goh's visits to Hyderabad and Mumbai are part of Singapore's efforts to enhance linkages.
Mr Goh will be accompanied by Member of Parliament Vikram Nair and senior officials from MFA, Monetary Authority of Singapore and International Enterprise Singapore.
