Pastore: PSG cannot afford to underestimate Chelsea
Apr 3, 2014 11:32:00 AM
The attacking midfielder is insistent his side still have much work to do, while Thiago Motta is also expecting a difficult return leg at Stamford Bridge
Javier Pastore has urged Paris Saint-Germain to retain their focus after securing a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
The Ligue 1 champions are in pole position to book their ticket for the semi-finals following their win at Parc des Princes, yet Pastore - who scored his side's third on Wednesday night - insists they cannot afford to take next week's return lightly.
"It's an excellent result to win 3-1 against Chelsea in a really good match of football," Pastore told the official PSG website.
"I am very happy to have scored that third goal, because it will be an important goal in the return leg.
"Chelsea are a great team with great players so we will have to stay focused there, because it is still a Champions League quarter-final."
Meanwhile, that sentiment was echoed by Thiago Motta, with the midfielder expecting Chelsea to apply plenty of pressure on their own turf.
"It's an excellent result. We have played a huge match of football. In the first half, it was very difficult for us, and then in the second, we made life very difficult for them.
"We have to play a very tricky return leg at Stamford Bridge now and resist the pressure from Chelsea to qualif
The striker says the Liga giants were not thinking about last year's semi-final defeat when they took on BVB on Wednesday
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has insisted Wednesday's 3-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu was not motivated by revenge.
Los Blancos were beaten 4-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the 2012-13 edition of European club football's elite competition, but a repeat of last year's defeat seems unlikely after Madrid's comfortable win in the first leg of their quarter-final tie courtesy of goals from Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I don't want to talk about revenge, only of Wednesday's game, which was a great one from our point of view," Benzema told the official Uefa website.
"We scored three without reply, a very important achievement ahead of the second leg. I'm very happy with the result.
"I don't know if that advantage is enough. We will see about that in the next game but for now we feel good.
"We will look to keep fighting until the end because Madrid are a great team."
The return at the Signal Iduna Park is scheduled for April 8.
Paris Saint-Germain exploited 'tired' Chelsea, admits Hazard
By Jamie Dunn
Apr 3, 2014 11:21:00 AM
The Belgian scored an away goal and the Blues were just one down heading into stoppage time until Javier Pastore's excellent solo effort in stoppage time at Parc des Princes
Chelsea star Eden Hazard says that his side were struggling with fatigue when Paris Saint-Germain scored a crucial third goal in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night.
The Belgian scored an equaliser from the penalty spot after Ezequiel Lavezzi had put the hosts in front, as the Blues pressed PSG into surrendering possession during a frantic first half.
But the French champions went back in front when David Luiz put the ball into his own net and, in stoppage time, Javier Pastore was allowed to dribble through a "tired" Chelsea defence and beat Petr Cech at his near post.
"We had the game in our hands in the first half," Hazard told BeIn Sport. "We came back good and we managed the game.
"But the second half was complicated. We were a bit tired and it felt that way towards the end. Now there's a return leg and we will do everything to push [PSG]."
Hazard was left ruing fine margins after his volley struck the woodwork with the game level at 1-1 in the first half.
He added: "If my shot went to the back of the net instead of the post, the game would have been different. We could have done better by playing better on the counter. 3-1 is complicated but we will fight to [progress]". y for the semi-finals."
The coach was disappointed that his forwards could not convert their chances in the absence of Robert Lewandowski and suggested that could be their downfall
Borussia Dortmund "could have scored five goals" in their 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday, according to boss Jurgen Klopp.
The Schwarzgelben were without star striker Robert Lewandowski due to suspension and the team's other attackers were unable to compensate for his absence at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Goals from Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo ruined the evening for the visitors and Klopp - who guided the team to the final last season, knocking out the Blancos in the last four - was left to rue missed opportunities and slack defending.
"We were not compact enough," the coach told Sky. "We stood deep and we stood wide, but we were not compact enough.
"Real always score at home. So when they do it does not matter with regards to the early goal. We could have scored five, but we did not.
"With the second and third Madrid goals, it is a fact that we had the ball both times but we gave it away cheaply.
"We ran a lot and we really fought for at least one goal but we did not get it. We certainly had better situations to get into a game and, if we go out next week, certainly some wasteful attacking from this match will be to blame.
"We will fight and give our everything again in the second leg."
The Turkey international has acknowledged that BVB face a tough task to progress, but refuses to throw in the towel just yet
Nuri Sahin remains hopeful Borussia Dortmund can reach the Champions League semi-finals, irrespective of their 3-0 first-leg loss to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.
Goals from Gareth Bale and Isco before the break gifted Madrid a comfortable lead at half-time, before Cristiano Ronaldo piled even more misery on Dortmund after the break.
Nevertheless, Sahin is not giving up just yet and hopes the Bundesliga side can turn things around in the return.
"We are 3-0 down in the tie but we still have a small chance; our coach told us just that after the game," Sahin told uefa.com.
"We missed [Robert] Lewandowski today and we are happy he will be back next week but it will be another tough game nonetheless.
"Last year we won the [semi-final] first leg 4-1 and the second game here was very difficult, we lost 2-0 and almost conceded a third, so we know that anything can happen.
"It was a difficult game for us. We knew that Madrid would bring their quality and speed but we also knew we would have chances, which in the end, we didn't take."
The return at the Signal Iduna Park is scheduled to take place on April 8.
Robben: Manchester United defended like a handball team
By Liam Twomey
Apr 2, 2014 3:12:00 PM
The European champions struggled to create enough clear chances to claim a win despite dominating possession, but the Dutchman insists the result was not be a surprise
Arjen Robben claims Manchester United defended like a handball team during their 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.
The Premier League champions surprised many at Old Trafford by holding the reigning European champions to a draw, with Nemanja Vidic's header having been cancelled out by a Bastian Schweinsteiger strike.
Despite dominating possession and playing the majority of the match in the United half, Bayern struggled to create enough clear chances to claim the away win expected of them.
But Robben insists the result should not be a surprise, given United's defensive approach to the match.
"It was not easy, as our opponents didn't leave any gaps," he told the German press.
"We wanted to play football but they tried to stop us. The English were just playing on the counter and have played very defensively, it was almost like in handball.
"But when you go a goal down you have to be pleased with a draw. 1-1 is a very good result that we can take home with us and then we just have to finish it off next week."
Team-mate Toni Kroos added: "It was difficult: we were dominant all the time. It's very difficult to play against a team that consistently has all its players around their own penalty area."
But club captain Philipp Lahm remains confident Bayern will see off United at the Allianz Arena in the second leg. "We wanted to win here, but if you come back from 1-0 down you can be satisfied," he insisted.
De Gea dismisses criticism of Manchester United style against Bayern
By Nicholas McGee
Apr 2, 2014 4:53:00 PM
The goalkeeper says his side set out to frustrate the much-fancied Bundesliga champions and remains confident of pulling off a shock win at the Allianz Arena
David de Gea has rejected criticism of Manchester United's style of play following their 1-1 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich.
The Premier League titleholders approached the home leg of their quarter-final tie against the holders as underdogs, but produced a determined showing to keep themselves in contention for a place in the last four.
Nemanja Vidic put David Moyes' side in front just before the hour mark, only for Bastian Schweinsteiger to level with a crucial away goal for Bayern.
After the game, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola questioned United's defensive mindset, but goalkeeper De Gea believes the English champions performed in the right manner.
"We played them in a proper way," the Spaniard told reporters. "We didn't let them to play like they're used to and that's why they could be frustrated.
"I think it's important people don’t forget Manchester is a big club. Well, we are fighting against a team which I consider one of the best in the world, We had the chance to win, so we are satisfied."
And De Gea is hopeful that United can produce their best at the Allianz Arena and progress to the semi-finals.
"It looked like they would win easily but we gave our best," the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper added.
"I think we made a good performance and we could even win the game. The tie is open and hopefully we will win there [Munich].
"This is football and our team has big hopes on going there and get the victory. Hopefully, we will be able to win."
'Look at me when I'm talking to you' - Guardiola clashes with British journalist
Apr 2, 2014 4:27:00 PM
The Catalan coach felt disrespected that a Guardian reporter looked away after asking him a question during his post-match press conference at Old Trafford
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola clashed with a British journalist after Tuesday night's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Manchester United.
Despite dominating both possession and territory, the Bavarians needed a goal from Bastian Schweinsteiger to earn a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, with Nemanja Vidic having given the hosts a surprise 58th-minute lead.
Guardiola stated after the game that Bayern had done well given that United had played with so many behind the ball but he was then upset by a follow-up question from a Guardian journalist enquiring as to whether he was "disappointed" by the Premier League champions' allegedly defensive approach:
Guardiola: "I didn't say that."
Journalist: "No, I'm asking you your opinion."
Guardiola: "I didn't say that. I didn't."
Journalist: "OK."
Guardiola: "I didn't say that. He's [Manchester United boss David Moyes] my colleague. I respect my colleague and colleague can play like - look at me when I talk to you."
Journalist: "Are you talking to me?"
Guardiola: "Yeah, look at me when I talk to you."
Journalist: "Yeah, OK, I am looking at you."
Guardiola: "Yeah!"
Journalist:: "Are you looking at me?"
Guardiola: "Yeah."
Journalist: "It's like Taxi Driver, this!"
Guardiola: "No, but I'm talking to you, you don't look at me, so I am trying explain."
Journalist: "Calm down, calm down."
Guardiola: "I am trying to explain. I'm trying to explain."
The eagerly-awaited second leg will take place at the Allianz Arena in Germany on April 9.
Atletico confirm Diego Costa did not tear hamstring
By Mark Doyle
Apr 2, 2014 3:36:00 PM
The recently-capped Spain international was forced off in the first half of the Rojiblancos' 1-1 draw at Camp Nou but could yet be fit for the return leg at the Vicente Calderon
Atletico Madrid have been boosted by the news that Diego Costa did not tear his hamstring in Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Barcelona.
The Spain international, who had been a doubt for the quarter-final first leg with a knee problem, was forced off just 27 minutes into the game at Camp Nou.
Atletico quickly confirmed via their official Twitter account that the forward had suffered "a hamstring muscle injury in his right thigh", immediately prompting fears that the 25-year-old was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
However, the Rojiblancos have now revealed that there was "no tear", meaning Costa could be fit for next week's return leg at the Vicente Calderon.
Costa himself, though, was pessimistic about his chances of facing Barca in the Spanish capital on April 9, stating upon his arrival at Atletico's training ground on Wednesday morning that he would not be fit "on time".
The Brazil-born attacker is the Rojiblancos' top scorer this season, with 33 goals in 43 games in all competitions.
'Ronaldo not injured' - Ancelotti calms Madrid fears following substitution
Apr 3, 2014 12:00:00 AM
The coach insisted his star forward was just brought off as a precaution and praised his team following their confident 3-0 win over Dortmund
Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is not injured and was just substituted as a precaution in Real Madrid's 3-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.
Wednesday's quarter-final first leg marked another high point in the Ballon d'Or-winner's incredible campaign, as he equalled Lionel Messi's record of 14 Champions League goals in a season during the 3-0 win over last season's European runners-up.
The Portugal captain was booed by his own supporters during Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabeu, but his name was being chanted after he scored his side's third goal against Dortmund to take his tally for the season to 45.
Ancelotti revealed last week that Ronaldo was carrying a minor knee injury and the Italian brought the former Manchester United man off with 10 minutes remaining against the side who beat the Spanish giants in the semi-final last term.
But the Italian coach played down concerns that his prolific forward could face a spell on the sidelines at such a crucial stage of the season, as his side attempt to win a Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey treble.
"Cristiano had a knee injury," Ancelotti told reporters. "I've taken him out to avoid risks. He is not injured, just a minor annoyance.
"I'm satisfied with the result and the attitude of the team. It wasn't an easy game but we started well. Then we slowed down and Dortmund are a very dangerous team on the break.
"Now we have to play in Dortmund. They use dangerous and quick counterattacks, but our defence was good. We also pushed up to stop them doing long balls."
The Swede was unable to make it to the end of PSG's 3-1 win over Chelsea after stretching his leg as he ran forwards in the second half, and was swiftly substituted
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the second leg of Paris Saint-Germain's quarter-final with Chelsea through injury, according to Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Midway through PSG's 3-1 defeat of Chelsea on Wednesday, the former AC Milan and Barcelona forward pulled up with what looked like a hamstring injury, but it has since been suggested could have been his calf causing him pain.
The Swede made a pass out wide but pulled up as he sprinted forwards in pursuit of a potential return ball with 66 minutes on the clock.
Laurent Blanc brought on Brazilian winger Lucas Moura, with Ibrahimovic grimacing as he shuffled down the tunnel, casting doubt on whether he will be fit for the return leg at Stamford Bridge and even the rest of the season.
And PSG chief Al-Khelaifi was not optimistic, telling beIn Sport after the match: "Ibrahimovic picked up an injury. He will be out for a few weeks."
Ibrahimovic's absence in Ligue 1 will be less obviously felt as les Parisiens are well ahead of second-placed Monaco in the title race and coach Blanc added that it was beyond question that at least a short spell on the sidelines is needed.
"Zlatan felt a slight muscular pain - I'm not sure whether it's his calf or his hamstring," Blanc added. "We'll have to look after that but it will require a certain amount of rest."
Eight minutes after Ibrahimovic made way for the hosts, Marco Verratti suffered a similar fate as he was forced off the pitch with an unspecified injury as January signing Yohan Cabaye came on in his place.
Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t want his Real Madrid players losing focus in the second-leg against Borussia Dortmund.
Madrid took a 3-0 win from the first-leg on Wednesday after goals from Gareth Bale, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But speaking to reporters after the match, Ancelotti insisted the tie was not over.
“[Dortmund] will try everything to come back. That’s normal,” the Coach said.
“We have to be vigilant. Simply, if we play the same way we did today we can reach the semi-final.
“The atmosphere was very good today, on and off the field.
“We’ve responded well [to losing to Barcelona and Sevilla]. But it’s clear we haven’t completely forgotten those results because we have paid dearly. We aren’t top of the League but we have time.
“If we win every game until the end of the season we’ll win the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.”
Ancelotti added that he was impressed by Pepe’s performance and rejected a suggestion that Ronaldo had a quiet night.
“Pepe has done very well. He’s done well all season, playing with personality,” Ancelotti said of the Portugal international.
“I think playing at the back wasn’t easy tonight because our opponents found ways to attack us, so the four defenders have done very well.
“We tried not to give them space but there was too much to cover. Iker [Casillas] made a fantastic save as well.
“I’m more worried about the second-leg [than Cristiano]. Dortmund showed their quality in the second-half.
“Cristiano has a nuisance in his knee. At the moment we don’t mind the hassle of it. Naturally we want to give him rest but I don’t think he was quiet. There’s no problem for now.”
Ancelotti also confirmed that the decision to substitute Ronaldo came as a precaution rather than because his knee problem flared up to any great extent.
Ancelotti was deprived of Angel Di Maria at short notice after the Argentine reported ill with the former Paris Saint-Germain boss picking Isco in his place.
“Isco had a very good game. He sacrificed himself to defend, won balls and showed the quality he has. His game was fantastic.
“I’m happy because he has shown he can play in that position. He helped the team a lot with his performance.”
Mourinho tactics backfire as Torres and Chelsea face exit
By Mike Collett
LONDON Thu Apr 3, 2014 2:39pm BST

(Reuters) - Fernando Torres looks set for the Stamford Bridge exit door and Chelsea are in danger of Champions League elimination after a night in Paris when, for once, manager Jose Mourinho's tactics backfired spectacularly.
Mourinho, clearly no longer trusting the 50.0 million pounds ($83.17 million) Spanish striker after his latest lame performance in a 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace last Saturday, started without a recognised forward against Paris St Germain.
Although they played well in patches, the plan failed as Chelsea lacked firepower up front and made mistakes at the back to allow PSG to give themselves a decent shot of reaching the last four with a 3-1 win in the first leg of the quarter-final.
Instead of leading the line, a clearly fed-up Torres warmed the bench for almost an hour while German midfielder Andre Schurrle played as the nominal front man but spent most of his time working and running hard but creating very little.
Despite Mourinho's somewhat negative set-up, his gamble looked to have come off in relative terms as the clock counted down with PSG 2-1 ahead having allowed Chelsea to bank a vital away goal. Then Mourinho's house of cards fell in.
BRILLIANT DRIBBLE
Javier Pastore's brilliant dribble and shot which beat goalkeeper Petr Cech at his near post with the last kick of the game made it 3-1 at the death and put PSG in a far stronger position for the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.
Chelsea have shown in the past they are capable of recovering from what appear to be lost causes and although this tie is still alive, Chelsea will need a huge improvement.
While they need goals, according to Mourinho he cannot rely on his strikers to score them.
Asked to explain his formation afterwards, Mourinho grumbled: "I am not happy with my strikers performances so I have to try (different) things.
"So with Andre I know that we have one more player to have the ball.
"We have one more player to associate with the other players and even (though) he is not dangerous because he is not a striker he can help us keep possession."
In his pomp for Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, Torres was not only a player that kept possession but never seemed to stop scoring either, but the goals stopped flowing and turned to a trickle when he got to Stamford Bridge in January 2011.
His future at Chelsea has been questioned all season but after this latest snub it seems unlikely he will remain.
While Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 14 times for Real Madrid in the Champions League this season and Chelsea target Diego Costa has seven for Atletico Madrid, Torres has scored three times - with two of those goals coming in their 3-0 win over Schalke 04 in a Group Stage match last October.
MOURINHO'S JIBES
Mourinho was without the injured Samuel Eto'o, who, like Torres, has a Champions League winners medal in his collection, and who, like Torres, has also been the target of Mourinho's jibes about his strikers this season.
And clearly Mourinho did not think Demba Ba, who has only scored five goals all season - two of them coming in two minutes against Tottenham Hotspur - was the answer to his problems as he did not even summon him off the bench.
Meanwhile Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku is still thriving on loan at Everton.
The one redeeming feature of Chelsea's play was the midfield maturity of Eden Hazard who scored their goal from the penalty spot to level at 1-1 and also hit the post before halftime.
Over the last decade Mourinho has reached the quarter-final stage seven times with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, always steering his team through to the semis.
That run could continue next week but they have an uphill battle ahead of them, especially with Mourinho appearing to have such little faith in his goal scorers.
For all Chelsea's vast financial muscle they appear to have arrived at this critical stage of the season without a reliable striker to lead them to glory.
It is a conundrum but Mourinho being Mourinho, he might just conjure up the answer next week.

The Dutchman was quick to dismiss concerns over his side's form after they went two consecutive games without victory - but admits they can improve in the Champions League
Arjen Robben joked of a "giant crisis" at Bayern Munich after the European champions registered consecutive draws this week.
Bayern were held 3-3 at home against Hoffenheim on Sunday, ending a run of 12 consecutive Bundesliga wins in 2014, before Bastian Schweinsteiger secured a 1-1 stalemate at Manchester United in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg.
"It's a giant crisis, yes," joked Robben, speaking to TZ. "We should have a serious meeting tomorrow."
While the 30-year-old went on to state his side were content with their draw at Old Trafford, he believes they can play far better in front of their own fans and is confident United will not approach the game with an attacking mindset.
He added: "It's okay. First of all, because they have scored the first goal. If we went in the lead, my feeling would be different now. So we are pleased simply about the away goal that we have achieved.
"We can play a bit better and faster, but on the other hand, you must also first find the gap in such a compact defence. Sometimes we came through the flanks, I had a couple of shots but no big chances were taken.
"They will not go on full attack, I think. But that does not matter. We need to get a top performance with our fans behind us, play our game and try to score goals in Munich. But we must also be on guard, that's for sure."
Bayern travel to Augsburg on Saturday having already sealed the domestic title, but Robben stressed he would not enjoy being rested ahead of the visit of David Moyes' men next week.
"It's down to the coach, it's his decision," he said.
"I always like to play, of course. But for me it's also about Wednesday. On Saturday there is nothing more to be gained, [but] for the rhythm it could be important.
"The decisive aspect is Wednesday, since we are required to come and pick up our performance. We are a team that is there when it counts. We have to show that again now."
The PSG boss was enthused by the way in which his side exploited the Blues' fatigue in the second half at the Parc des Prince but he is taking nothing for grante
Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc labelled Wednesday’s first-leg win over Chelsea as “encouraging” but says qualication for the Champions League semi-finals is far from assured.
Terrific strikes from Argentine duo Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore, either side of a David Luiz own goal, earned the French champions a stirring 3-1 win at Parc des Princes.
However, delighted as he was by PSG's response to Eden Hazard's first-half equaliser from the penalty spot, Blanc is taking nothing for granted ahead of the return fixture at Stamford Bridge.
“It is encouraging,” the World Cup winner told reporters after the game. “But qualification is far from being acquired.
"I felt the team was a little dejected [at 1-1 at half-time] but I told them that they should return with a fighting spirit. That's what we did.
"The Blues, they did a lot of running [in the first half], so they were struggling. We are really pleased with the second half; that's where we made the difference.”
Blanc also paid tribute to the much-maligned Ezequiel Lavezzi, who opened the scoring after four minutes before whipping in the free kick that led to David Luiz's own goal, which put PSG 2-1 ahead.
“He was a powerful and important contributor to our success,” said the 48-year-old coach.
“He found a good physique. He is sharp; it has not always been the case. But he is one of those players who add depth and speed. In addition, he scores goals.”
PSG, who lead Ligue 1 by 13 points from Monaco, play Stade de Reims at home on Saturday before travelling to London for the second leg of their quarter-final clash with Chelsea on Tuesday.
Bayern ban British newspapers over 'insulting' Schweinsteiger headlines
By Joe Wright
Apr 3, 2014 1:52:00 PM
Journalists from The Sun and The Daily Mirror have been denied accreditation for the second-leg clash with Manchester United following articles on the midfielder's red card
Bayern Munich have banned journalists from two British newspapers from attending next week's Champions League clash with Manchester United after deeming headlines about Bastian Schweinsteiger to be "insulting".
The Sun and The Daily Mirror published articles in the wake of the midfielder's red card in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Tuesday, using the headlines "You dirty Schwein" and "You Schwein" as a pun on the German word for 'pig'.
Bayern have since condemned the papers for what they perceive to be "disrespectful, discriminatory and a personal insult" and have confirmed they will not allow reporters from either to be allowed into the Allianz Arena for the return leg next week.
In an official statement, Bayern claimed that the articles did not adhere to Uefa's 'respect' principles in European competition, citing their recent sanction for an offensive banner in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal as further proof of their own commitment to the campaign.
"FC Bayern Munich will not accept that style of coverage and strongly condemns this," the statement reads. "Uefa calls for "RESPECT" in the Champions League - a big European-wide campaign. Every player wears this logo on their jersey during the game and every participant of the competition is obliged to adherence of "RESPECT".
"Because of a violation against this agreement by four spectators that showed disrespectful banners during the home match in the first leg of the round of the last 16 against Arsenal in Munich's Allianz Arena, Bayern was sanctioned with a 700-seat ban as well as a fine of €10,000. This is accepted by us."
Schweinsteiger, who scored die Roten's goal on the night at Old Trafford, was later sent off for two bookable offences following a late challenge on Wayne Rooney.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward will face a month on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury in Wednesday’s Champions League win over Chelsea
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out of action for four weeks, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has announced.
The forward pulled up in the 68th minute of his side's Champions League quarter-final first leg with Chelsea on Wednesday and was forced to be substituted, with test later confirming a hamstring problem.
PSG have now revealed the Sweden international will miss the second leg against the Blues as he will likely be sidelined for a month, with scans expected to confirm the severity of the injury tomorrow.
"It's an MRI [scan] at this time," Nasser Al Khelaifi told RMC. "We will have the result within half an hour, an hour.
"But he will need at least four weeks of rest. He won't play the next game against Chelsea."
As well as missing Tuesday's return leg at Stamford Bridge, the 32-year-old will also be unavailable for the Coupe de la Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais on April 19.
Lucas Moura, who replaced Ibrahimovic against Chelsea, has been given a vote of confidence by Al Khelaifi, who has backed the Brazilian to step up in the Swede's absence.
"I think Zlatan is very important for the team, but Lucas is ready," he said.
Al Khelaifi went on to stress that Edinson Cavani will not leave the club this summer, despite the player hinting at a possible exit admid reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
He added: "Cavani is very important for us, he is very professional, very generous on the field, he gives everything. I appreciate that.
"If he wants to change position, it is not his decision, it is that of the coach and he understands. He is a star of PSG. And of course he will stay with us next season."
