The president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has called for better performances in Europe from Serie A clubs.
Juventus are Italy's sole representative in European competition after the line-ups for the last eight of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League were confirmed this week.
Antonio Conte's side face French side Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals and FIGC president Giancarlo Abete has acknowledged the need for Juve to prosper given the recent performances by Italian clubs in continental tournaments.
The final of this season's Europa League takes place at Juventus Stadium, something Abete hopes the Turin outfit can capitalise on.
"Needless to say, Italian teams need to do better in Europe," Abete told reporters.
"There is a problem of competitiveness on our part. We have improved our (UEFA coefficient) ranking, but not enough.
"It's been a long time since one of our teams has been in the semi-finals of a European competition (the last occasion coming when Inter won the Champions League in 2010).
"But I am confident that Juventus can do it this season. I think the final in Turin will urge them on.
"This is an opportunity they can't miss."
Both Juve and Napoli found themselves in the Europa League after finishing third in their respective Champions League groups.
Napoli were subsequently knocked out by Porto on Thursday, while Milan's Champions League journey came to an end last week with a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Inter host Atalanta on Sunday in a game that forward Rodrigo Palacio has dubbed a must-win clash in their quest for European football.
Walter Mazzarri's men head into the game unbeaten in six Serie A matches and still retain slim hope of gaining qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Inter are 11 points behind Napoli, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification berth and welcome fourth-placed Fiorentina to Stadio San Paolo this weekend.
A place in next season's UEFA Europa League, courtesy of finishing fourth or fifth, appears a much more realistic aim for Inter.
And with sixth-placed Parma only one point behind the 18-time Italian champions, Palacio knows it is vital his side claim three points against an Atalanta outfit seeking a fourth consecutive win.
"You can see the team has improved. Our understanding is growing just as the team is improving," Palacio told Inter's official website.
"It's becoming stronger and we have to keep this up. You only need to look at the results on the pitch and the recent performances.
"We can't fail on Sunday. We're playing at home and we have to win. We know Atalanta are a team that's tough to face. We'll need to be careful.
"We know we lost points in games we should have got something from, but we have to keep going the way we are now."
Inter will again be without suspended defender Juan Jesus, while Yohan Benalouane is banned for Atalanta.
The visitors have moved well clear of any potential relegation danger as a result of their recent upturn in form and will have designs on securing a top-half finish.
Stefano Colantuono's men currently sit ninth and can also take heart from their recent performances against Inter, who have not beaten Atalanta since 2010.
Atalanta completed a double over Inter last season with enthralling 3-2 and 4-3 wins, and held Mazzarri's men to a 1-1 draw in this season's reverse fixture in October.
Striker German Denis is likely to be key if Atalanta are to claim another success against Inter, having found the net 10 times this season and on six occasions in the last three games between the two sides.
Midfielder Maxi Moralez is confident Atalanta can emerge triumphant again and extend their unbeaten run against Inter, which currently stands at five matches.
Moralez told his club's official website: "We expect a tough match against Inter, an opponent with many champions and who are in shape.
"But we are also having a great moment and we want to keep going to the end of the season, in the best way possible."
Lazio will be out to keep alive their UEFA Europa League hopes when they host a faltering Milan side in Serie A on Sunday.
Edy Reja's men have been in good form of late, losing just two of their last 11 league games - a run that has lifted them to seventh in the table, six points behind Inter and a Europa League berth.
Lazio have qualified for Europe's secondary competition in each of the past three seasons, and they need to put a strong run of results together over the final 10 games of the season if they are to continue that trend.
The capital club will take comfort from having home advantage against Clarence Seedorf's struggling side, as they have already beaten Inter and drawn with top two Juventus and Roma at the Stadio Olimpico this term, although they lost 1-0 to Atalanta in their last home outing.
Michael Ciani's equaliser earned Lazio a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture at San Siro back in October, and although Milan have had a change of manager since then, their fortunes have scarcely improved.
Club legend Seedorf took over from Massimiliano Allegri in January and after an initial mini-resurgence under the Dutchman, the 18-time Italian champions have fallen away again.
Milan, who sit 11th in the table, have lost five of their last six in all competitions, including a 4-1 thumping by Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League last-16 second leg that completed a 5-1 aggregate victory for the Spaniards.
It has been a turbulent season at San Siro, with the club looking destined for a mid-table finish that would see them miss out on European football for the first time since their 10th-placed finish in the 1997-98 campaign.
They responded in style to win the Scudetto 12 months later, but it will take a huge turnaround to repeat that next season with Juve - who look set to win a third title in a row this season - looking back to their imperious best.
Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati is suspended for the trip to Rome after his early red card in the 4-2 home defeat to Parma last time out.
He is likely to be replaced by Marco Amelia, while for Lazio, keeper Federico Marchetti (flu) is a doubt and striker Helder Postiga, yet to feature since arriving on loan from Valencia in January, continues to struggle with a back problem.
Juventus will be expecting to pile on the misery for bottom club Catania when the sides meet in Serie A on Sunday.
The Turin outfit are chasing down the division's record points total of 97 - set by Inter in 2007 - and should have three more to show for their efforts come the end of this weekend.
Indeed, if Juventus win their remaining 10 matches, they will surpass that marker by eight points and, with Roma well adrift in second, Antonio Conte's men may feel they have the freedom to push for the milestone.
Catania's run of one win from their last 10 league fixtures stands in stark contrast to the form of the defending champions, who are unbeaten in 20, having won 18 of those.
It has been a campaign of dramatic decline for the hosts, who finished eighth last season but are now facing the very real prospect of a return to Serie B after an eight-year absence.
Sunday's 3-1 loss to fellow strugglers Sassuolo saw Rolando Maran's men hit rock-bottom and the task that will greet them this weekend is one of the most daunting in Italian football.
Catania have not beaten Juve since 2009, although that victory came in Turin, where Juve stormed to a 4-0 triumph earlier this season.
Andrea Pirlo found the net with a superb free-kick on that occasion - his 100th appearance for the club - and the midfielder has attracted much praise in recent weeks after more set-piece wizardry.
The 34-year-old scored a late set-piece in Juve's 1-0 win at Genoa last time out in the league, before producing another top-drawer set-piece effort to knock Fiorentina out of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.
Pirlo's dead-ball form moved Juve assistant boss Angelo Alessio to proclaim to Mediaset: "I think Pirlo is the best in the world at free-kicks and I also believe he can beat Sinisa Mihajlovic's record of goals from set-plays in Serie A (27)."
The league leaders are without the suspended Paul Pogba for the trip to Catania, while Andrea Barzagli and Federico Peluso miss out through injury. Claudio Marchisio and Angelo Ogbonna remain doubtful.

MILAN (AP) — It's top against bottom this weekend as Juventus visits Catania looking to maintain its charge to a third straight Serie A title.
Juventus is 14 points ahead of second-place Roma, which has a game in hand and travels to Chievo Verona on Saturday.
Here are five things to know about the Italian league this weekend:
SEEDORF IN TROUBLE
Clarence Seedorf was hailed as AC Milan's savior when he arrived at the start of the year, but the new manager may shortly be heading for the exit door.
Seedorf won his first two league matches in charge to prompt talk of a change in fortunes for Milan.
However, the Rossoneri are on a four-game losing streak and Seedorf's record in all competition is now four wins, one draw and seven losses.
Milan visits Lazio on Sunday and will also need a positive result against Fiorentina three days later if Seedorf is to save his job.
There are also reports of a dressing room divide, with some of the players unhappy with Seedorf.
"We're not interested in what the papers say," goalkeeper Marco Amelia said. "We're all united in the dressing room and we want to highlight that. If it was true there would be stories of arguments, fights.
"We're not like that at Milan, at the training ground there's an air of us being even more united, especially in difficult times. We're united to get out of this situation."

NEW MILAN STADIUM
AC Milan has expressed interest in buying land on the northwest outskirts of the city to build a new 60,000-seat stadium.
The Rho area will host the Expo Milan world fair from May to October in 2015.
Milan currently shares the city-run San Siro stadium with Inter Milan.
Plans are in the initial stages and no deal has been signed yet.
___
100-POINT BARRIER
With 75 points and 10 matches still to go, Juventus has a chance to become the first Serie A club to reach the 100-point barrier.
Inter Milan set the record of 97 points in 2006-07.
Serie A began awarding three points for wins in the 1994-95 season and the current 20-club format began in 2003-04.
Juventus won the past two titles with 84 and 87 points, respectively.
"We're doing super super incredible things," coach Antonio Conte said. "But the title is the priority."

ROSSI'S RETURN
Giuseppe Rossi's return to the pitch is likely still at least month away but Fiorentina is getting excited nonetheless by his scheduled presence at Thursday's Europa League match with Juventus.
The United States-born Rossi has been doing rehabilitation in the New York area following the latest injury to his right knee in January.
He is being treated by the same specialists who helped him recover from his previous two — more serious — injuries.

PARMA TARGETS EUROPE
Parma will be looking to boost its push for Europe when it hosts Genoa in the lunchtime kickoff on Sunday.
Roberto Donadoni's side currently occupies the last Europa League qualifying spot as it sits sixth in Serie A, five points ahead of Lazio.
It is also just a point behind Inter Milan and two behind Fiorentina, and has a game in hand on its rivals.
"We are having a great season," Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi said. "We've been building something important for a few years now. Let's hope that the squad grows still further.
"I'm proud that clubs are after our players. Donadoni is helping the squad grow tactically and on a human level. He has another year left on his contract, I would make him sign for another four or five."
Serie A Wrap: Inspired Immobile stars in Torino win, Roma beat Chievo
22 March 2014
Ciro Immobile moved to the top of the Serie A goalscoring charts with a hat-trick as Torino beat Livorno 3-1 on Saturday.
The 24-year-old striker netted the first treble of his career to end Torino's four-match losing streak and keep Livorno very much in danger of relegation to the second tier.
Immobile opened the scoring after 25 minutes when he flicked home Cesare Bovo's near-post free-kick, and he doubled the lead with a scuffed half-volley on the hour mark following neat link-up play with Omar El Kaddouri.
The former Genoa man then capped off a fine performance seven minutes later, scoring his 16th league goal of the season with a fierce right-footed effort from distance.
Livorno did net a late consolation through Luca Siligardi but they are just a point above the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Roma cemented their grip on second place with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Chievo.
Former Arsenal forward Gervinho gave the visitors the lead as he found the net for the ninth time in all competitions after 17 minutes.
The Ivorian capitalised on a terrible defensive header from Bostjan Cesar by volleying past helpless Chievo goalkeeper Michael Agazzi.
Rudi Garcia's side were always in control and they sealed the points three minutes before half-time, attacker Mattia Destro coolly slotting home from Brazilian midfielder Rodrigo Taddei's expertly placed throughball.
Gervinho went close again with a late header that was brilliantly saved by Agazzi, but it mattered little as the visitors comfortably closed out the game to move six points clear of third-placed Napoli ahead of their meeting with Fiorentina on Sunday.
Roma veteran Francesco Totti appears set to be picked in Italy's FIFA World Cup squad if he can stay fit.
Totti has enjoyed a strong campaign in the Serie A for Roma, who sit second but a long way behind leaders Juventus.
The 37-year-old retired from international football in 2007 – a year after Italy's World Cup success in Germany – and has not featured for his country since.
Days after Totti said he would be 'proud' to be recalled, Cesare Prandelli has hinted only a lack of fitness could keep the star attacker out.
"I find it enormously pleasing that a great champion, one of the best in the post-war period, gives the Italy coach the opportunity to think of him," Prandelli told RTL Radio.
"Before his injury, Totti had an extraordinary physical condition and he is now finding it again.
"He said that obviously a decision will only be made after verifying his fitness levels, so it's not just a technical issue. After all, nobody can doubt Totti's credentials.
"It's true his age is what it is, even though he is proving he can sustain the tempo of a match. In Brazil it'll take something more. We will evaluate his fitness levels."
Parma forward Antonio Cassano also appears set to be picked after his promising performances for his club.
Despite being drawn in a tough Group D featuring Uruguay, England and Costa Rica, Prandelli said Italy had nothing to fear.
"The sensations are all good and logistically things are going well. There are four teams who are the favourites, then many others," he said.
"We want to arrive at the competition in good physical and psychological shape, because we have a particularly tough group.
"We are not afraid, as we already experienced the climate at the Confederations Cup last year and know the difficulties we will be going into."
Udinese have confirmed the signing of former Spain international Albert Riera for next season on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old winger has been without a club since agreeing a mutual termination of his Galatasaray contract in January, and will officially become a Udinese player on July 1.
He began his career in his homeland with Mallorca and has gone on to play for Bordeaux, Espanyol, Manchester City, Liverpool and Olympiacos.
Riera moved to Galatasaray in 2011, but made just four league starts for the Turkish champions this season.
A lack of first-team opportunities under Roberto Mancini will have contributed to his desire to seek game time elsewhere.
Udinese currently sit 14th in Serie A, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
Roma head coach Rudi Garcia has written off his side's slim Serie A title chances, describing second place as "the only realistic target".
The Stadio Olimpico outfit currently sit 14 points adrift of leaders Juventus with a game in hand, while Napoli are a further six points behind in third.
But Garcia now feels his side's sole focus should be to cling on to second spot.
"We'll keep battling to hold on to second place," he said. "I think that's the only realistic target now, despite our injuries.
"We're still not sure of second place, we mustn't let up. We have to make sure we win at home tomorrow (against Torino).
"What do we need to reach Juventus' level? They've had a record-breaking season so far, but then so have we."
Following the arrival of club president James Pallotta in the Italian capital, Garcia refused to make any comment on his future as head coach beyond the current campaign.
"President Pallotta landed in Rome today," Garcia continued. "He has a very important event on Wednesday with the stadium presentation.
"My future? I'm focused solely on the game that my team has to play against Torino tomorrow."
Roma's 10-game winning start to the season came to an end with a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Turin in November, and Garcia hopes his players can put that clash behind them.
"Our 10-game winning streak ended against Torino after a number of refereeing mistakes, but anyone can make mistakes," he added.
"We played well in that game against Torino, but all that matters now is tomorrow's match. We want to push on."
Garcia also confirmed that full-back Maicon (knee) would face a late fitness test ahead of the fixture.
Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin has signed a one-year contract extension, which commits him to the club until June 2017.
The Colombian, who has made 29 appearances in all competitions this season, was due to be out of contract in 2016.
However, he has now committed to the San Siro outfit for a further 12 months.
The news will come as a boost to the men from the Italian capital, who currently sit sixth in Serie A and are chasing a European berth.
Guarin joined Inter from Porto - initially on loan - in 2012, but was on the verge of a switch to Juventus in a swap deal involving Marko Vucinic in January.
This latest development brings an end to speculation over the player's future, which had also seen him linked with a move to Chelsea.
Guarin has scored 14 goals in 82 appearances for Inter.
Cesare Prandelli is set to sign a contract extension to remain as coach of the Italian national team until the end of UEFA Euro 2016.
Prandelli had been tipped by some to leave his post at the end of this year's FIFA World Cup after four years in charge.
But responding to the rumours, the former Fiorentina boss assured Italian fans at the time that the issue of his future would not be a distraction at the showpiece event in Brazil.
And an FIGC spokesman confirmed to Perform on Monday that Prandelli had held discussions with the national governing body's president Giancarlo Abete, adding that an agreement over a new two-year deal had been verbally agreed.
The 56-year-old is yet to put pen to paper on the deal, but declared his pride at being offered the extension.
"At this moment I feel a great satisfaction," he is quoted as saying by ANSA. "I'm proud of the fact that the Football Association have proposed a two-year renewal, regardless of the outcome of the World Cup."
Prandelli took on his role with the national team in 2010 and led them to the final of Euro 2012, where they lost 4-0 to Spain.
Italy have been drawn in World Cup Group D alongside Uruguay, Costa Rica and England.
Napoli have been given a boost with the news that forward Dries Mertens' ankle injury is only a first-degree sprain.
The Belgium international was withdrawn due to the problem shortly after coming on as a substitute in Napoli's 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina on Sunday.
An MRI scan on Monday revealed the 26-year-old will miss Wednesday's trip to Catania as he undergoes physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatment on his right ankle.
Despite Sunday's loss to fourth-placed Fiorentina, Napoli enjoy a seven-point cushion in third and look set to clinch the final UEFA Champions League spot in Serie A.
However, coach Rafael Benitez will be eager for Mertens to return as soon as possible due as they continue with a tricky run of fixtures.
After their trip to Catania, Napoli host runaway leaders Juventus on Sunday before clashes with Parma and Lazio - who sit fifth and seventh respectively in the table.
Mertens, who joined Napoli from PSV last June, has featured 26 times in Serie A this term, scoring six times.
Milan coach Clarence Seedorf has denied rumours of tension between himself and Adriano Galliani amid speculation over his future.
Reports in the Italian media have suggested that Seedorf, who was appointed in January following the exit of Massimiliano Allegri, is under pressure following a disappointing run of results.
Milan are winless in five games across all competitions and sit 12th in Serie A, although Sunday's 1-1 draw at Lazio at least brought a streak of four consecutive defeats to an end.
Chief executive and vice-president Galliani accompanied the team on the trip to the capital at the request of Seedorf and will do the same on Wednesday when Milan visit Fiorentina.
Barbara Berlusconi, who shares the role of Milan vice-president and chief executive with Galliani, revealed earlier this week that Seedorf's appointment was made by father and owner Silvio Berlusconi.
But Seedorf is adamant he has always had strong communication with Galliani.
"There has never been any tension between us," Seedorf said. "When there are many outside factors, it's easy to make people believe in many different situations.
"But the communication between myself and the chief executive Galliani has always been with the best interest of Milan and it will remain so.
"I have a way of living that allows me to deal with all the pressure. I've always been a winner because of this and I will not lose this.
"I get up reasonably early and I work hard. I always work for the good of the team and for the results."
Serie A Preview: Napoli visit Catania, Fiorentina host Milan
24 March 2014
Catania almost caused a major Serie A upset against Juventus on Sunday and will have their sights set on dealing Napoli a midweek setback.
Runaway league leaders Juve had to rely on a Carlos Tevez strike just before the hour mark as they struggled past the Italian top-flight's basement club in a scrappy, turgid affair devoid of any pattern or fluency.
Catania are without a win in five league matches, but have lost just one of their last four on home soil and claimed a 3-1 scalp of Lazio in that run.
On Wednesday, Catania host a Napoli side desperate to cling on to third place and the UEFA Champions League spot that comes with it.
Napoli lost 1-0 at home to nearest rivals Fiorentina on Sunday, with the gap between the two side now seven points heading into the last nine games.
Fourth-placed Fiorentina welcome a Milan side winless in four league games on Wednesday and could crank the pressure up on Clarence Seedorf, who is reportedly fighting to save his job having only taken the reins at San Siro in January.
Juve's march towards a third successive title continues at home to Parma, although they are by no means guaranteed victory against a side who have not tasted league defeat since November 2 - that loss coming against Antonio Conte's men.
Rudi Garcia has already appeared to write off Roma's chances of winning the Serie A title this season, but could put further daylight between themselves and Napoli by winning the opening match of the round against Torino on Tuesday.
Inter will have been boosted by the news that Fredy Guarin has signed a one-year contract extension as they prepare to host Udinese, who themselves snapped up free agent Albert Riera this week, but the Spaniard will not join officially until July.
At the other end of the table, the bottom four were all on the receiving end of defeats last time out in the league, and Chievo will be looking to leapfrog Bologna and pull themselves clear of danger when the sides meet at Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.
Victory for Chievo would be bad news for fellow strugglers Sassuolo and Livorno, who face tricky opponents in the shape of Sampdoria and Atalanta respectively.
Elsewhere, Verona will be looking for a first win in five when they travel to Cagliari, while Lazio will want to cling on to their slim hopes of European qualification against Genoa.
Almost five months have passed since Juventus met Parma in Serie A and both sides have embarked on stunning unbeaten runs ever since.
The two sides clashed at Parma's Stadio Ennio Tardini on November 2 and saw a scrappy affair decided by Paul Pogba's second-half goal.
Defending champions Juve, who entered the match having scored 11 goals in their previous four league fixtures, were made to work for their win and know they will be in for another difficult encounter when they welcome Roberto Donadoni's side on Wednesday.
Since that defeat, Parma have surged up the Serie A table to fifth thanks to a 17-match league unbeaten run that has included the scalps of Napoli and Milan.
Juventus – who enter the match on the back of an unconvincing 1-0 win at rock-bottom Catania on Sunday – are all but guaranteed to win their third successive Serie A crown this season.
Antonio Conte's side are 14 points clear of the second-placed Roma, but midfielder Simone Padoin knows Juve will be tested by the in-form Parma.
Padoin told Juventus' in-house television station: "It will be a close one. They've only picked up a few less points than we have in 2014.
"They're in great physical and mental shape and will come wanting to win the game. However, they'll be up against a Juventus side who don't want to give anyone a way out."
Padoin played a full 90 minutes at Catania as Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah dropped to the bench.
Conte is having to rotate his squad as he juggles league commitments with their UEFA Europa League campaign, which sees them in the competition's last eight after seeing off Fiorentina 2-1 on aggregate.
And that may give Parma the edge, who will enter Wednesday's fixture fresher, despite being held to a 1-1 home draw by Genoa on Sunday.
Donadoni would love his side to repeat their feats against Milan earlier this month, when Antonio Cassano scored twice as they won 4-2 at San Siro, breaking a Serie A hoodoo that stretched 18 years.
Cassano has netted 11 goals in 27 league appearances this season and his form has seen him linked with a return to Italy's squad for the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He will play a key role for Parma in this encounter and Inter loanee Ezequiel Schelotto and ex-Juve forward Amauri are also in good form.
Pogba will return from suspension for Juve, but defender Andrea Barzagli and midfielder Claudio Marchisio are doubtful for the clash.
Life for under-fire Milan coach Clarence Seedorf gets no easier when his side visit Fiorentina in Serie A on Wednesday.
Milan have not won in more than a month and travel to Florence in danger of slipping to 14th if they lose.
For Milan to be mired in mid-table mediocrity is simply not acceptable for the 18-time Italian champions and although Seedorf's men showed signs of improvement in a 1-1 draw at Lazio on Sunday, the winless run continued.
For Seedorf to take the sole blame for that is unfair, given the 37-year-old only took over in January, but his arrival has failed to revive the club's fortunes.
Only Real Madrid have won more European Cups than Milan's seven, but they will not part of the competition next season due to their poor form.
And needing a morale-boosting win, a visit to the fourth-placed Fiorentina is hardly what Seedorf would have had in mind.
Milan defender Philippe Mexes was buoyed by the side's point at Lazio – a match in which Mario Balotelli also hit the post – and insists that everyone at the club is united behind Seedorf.
"We're very united and I mean that with all sincerity," Mexes said.
"We'll always give everything. It's a particular moment that we're going through and we won't get out of it without the fans behind us. We know what this jersey means to them.
"We'll do everything we can to get out of this situation and we're ready for the match against Fiorentina. We want to bring home a positive result."
Goalkeeper Christian Abbiati could return from suspension for Milan in place of Marco Amelia, while young forward Stephan El Shaarawy (foot) is still sidelined.
Milan will take heart from the fact that Fiorentina have not won one of their last seven Serie A home matches against them.
Of those clashes, four have been away wins and Milan would dearly love a big scalp on the road to boost spirits.
Fiorentina, though, are sure to be in good spirits after an excellent 1-0 victory at Napoli on Sunday.
Vincenzo Montella's side took advantage of Faouzi Ghoulam's first-half red card, but left it late, Joaquin's winner coming with just three minutes left.
The result ended a three-match winless league run on the road and saw them move four points clear of the rampaging Parma, who are unbeaten in 17 Serie A matches.
Fiorentina were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals by Juventus last week, but can now concentrate their energies on Serie A - something that may give them the edge over their opponents.
Montella is without Giuseppe Rossi (knee) for the rest of the season, but will be hopeful that Mario Gomez can fill the void.
The German, who has also battled injuries this campaign, has netted just three Serie A goals for his side.
Roma substitute Alessandro Florenzi scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as his side edged Torino 2-1 at Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday.
Florenzi, introduced for Radja Nainggolan with seven minutes to play, provided the telling blow with an excellent left-footed finish that found the net with Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli rooted the spot.
Mattia Destro had given the hosts the lead in the first half but Torino's Ciro Immobile moved ahead of Carlos Tevez at the top of Serie A's scoring charts with an outstanding volley seven minutes after the break.
Florenzi's late heroics ensured Rudi Garcia's men would claim all three points, though, extending their unbeaten record in home league matches this season to 15 - 12 of which have been wins.
The result leaves Roma nine points clear of third-placed Napoli, who lost 1-0 at home to Fiorentina on Sunday.
Roma started well, with Miralem Pjanic particularly dangerous, and should have taken the lead in the 28th minute.
Captain Francesco Totti – making his 700th appearance in a Roma shirt – spurned a golden chance, shooting at Padelli from 12 yards.
Roma's first-half dominance was capitalised on by Destro in the 41st minute, with Gervinho the provider.
The ex-Arsenal man did an excellent job in heavy traffic to squeeze a ball through for Destro, and the forward made no mistake, sliding in ahead of Padelli to score his third goal in as many matches.
Torino responded just after the interval as Immobile's outstanding season continued, with his left-footed volley from 12 yards giving Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis no chance.
Immobile has now scored 17 Serie A goals this season.
Torino went close to claiming the lead twice, as Immobile shot just over before Alessio Cerci fired wide.
Cerci's chance came at the end of a swift counter-attack, but the forward, who chested down, saw his shot go agonisingly wide with De Sanctis beaten.
The missed chances kept on coming as Gervinho turned wide after a goalmouth scramble before Torino's Kamil Glik produced a defender's finish.
Glik really should have scored but failed to turn Jasmin Kurtic's shot, which was heading wide, into the back of the net.
And Florenzi made Torino pay, finishing a move in the first minute of stoppage time that started with Immobile giving possession away.
The influential Gervinho picked Florenzi out with an angled ball and the replacement shifted the ball onto his left foot before thrashing past Padelli to send the Rome crowd into ecstasy.
Inter president Erick Thohir has moved to clarify his comments about strikers Fernando Torres, Alvaro Morata and Edin Dzeko.
The Indonesian businessman said on Tuesday that one of the trio could "maybe" become his latest signing at Inter.
Thohir has been quick to spend since taking over at San Siro in October last year - sanctioning the arrivals of Hernanes and Danilo D'Ambrosio as well as agreeing a deal for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
However, Thohir has suggested his previous comments about Chelsea forward Torres, Real Madrid youngster Morata and Manchester City's Dzeko should not be taken as a guarantee that Inter are on the verge of concluding another transfer.
"What I said is that we need someone up top," Thohir explained.
"The media have written about those players and I mentioned that one of them would be good for Inter."
Vidic is set to arrive at the end of the season and could be joined by fellow Premier League defender Bacary Sagna, with the Arsenal man in the final year of his contract.
Thohir revealed earlier in the week that Sagna was a target for the Serie A side but has since dismissed reported interest in Vidic's United team-mate Patrice Evra.
"Evra and Sagna? We've never had any negotiations with Evra. We're interested in Sagna because we need to balance the team. Right now we only have (Yuto) Nagatomo and Jonathan," he added.
"If one of them gets injured you need somebody else to come in. But if Sagna decided to stay in England, we'd understand and in that case we might bring in a young player from our academy."
Roma have unveiled details of their new 52,500-seater stadium that they hope will be a "driver for the club's continued success".
In December, the Serie A side reiterated their desire to leave the Stadio Olimpico and, subject to approval, they hope the new Stadio Della Roma will be ready for the start of the 2016-17 campaign.
Roma have played at their current home, which they share with city rivals Lazio, since 1953 but have been linked with a move away for the past five years.
The proposed stadium will form part of complex that will include venues for music and entertainment as well as world-class training facilities for the club.
Chairman James Pallotta showcased the plans on Wednesday as part of his vision for the future of the club.
"We have worked exceptionally hard over the past two years and particularly in recent months in collaboration with Mayor Marino and his administration in developing this stadium project for AS Roma, the City of Rome and our great fans," said Pallotta.
"The city and fans deserve this, a world-class stadium. We are confident the Stadio della Roma will be among the best in the world and a key driver for the club's continued success."
Roma captain Francesco Totti was impressed with the plans and believes the stadium is just reward for the club's fans.
"The project speaks for itself," he said. "It's amazing. It's a home, the home of Romanisti (Roma fans).
Serie A Wrap: Juve end Parma run, Milan stun Fiorentina
26 March 2014
Carlos Tevez's double ended Parma's 17-game unbeaten run in Serie A as Juventus moved a step closer to retaining their title with a 2-1 win.
The Turin giants stretched their lead at the top of the table to 14 points on Wednesday courtesy of a first-half brace from the Argentina striker, who is now the leading scorer in Serie A with 18 goals.
Tevez opened the scoring with a solo goal after 25 minutes and doubled their lead from close range seven minutes later at Juventus Stadium after Antonio Mirante had kept out Arturo Vidal's effort.
Cristian Molinaro gave Parma hope by pulling a goal back 62 minutes in, but Amauri was sent off for an elbow on Giorgio Chiellini and there was no way back as Juve continued their seemingly relentless march to another Scudetto and ensured the visitors remain in sixth spot.
Milan dealt a blow to fourth-placed Fiorentina's hopes of securing a UEFA Champions League spot as they secured a 2-0 win at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Fiorentina went into Wednesday's clash on the back of an impressive 1-0 win at third-placed Napoli on Sunday, but they were brought crashing back down to earth by Clarence Seedorf's previously out-of-sorts side.
Philippe Mexes opened the scoring in the first half and Mario Balotelli struck after 64 minutes as Milan secured their first win six matches in all competitions.
Napoli put the disappointment of their defeat to Vincenzo Montella's side behind them by securing a 4-2 victory at bottom-of-the-table Catania.
Rafael Benitez's men stunned their beleaguered hosts by racing into a 4-0 half-time lead courtesy of Duvan Zapata's first two goals in Serie A and further strikes from Jose Callejon and Henrique, who opened his account for the Naples outfit.
Luciano Monzon and Norbert Gyomber pulled goals back after the break as Catania showed some fight, but defeat leaves them six points adrift of Bologna, who sit just above the relegation zone after they were beaten 3-0 at Chievo, with Alberto Paloschi scoring twice for the home side.
Second-bottom Sassuolo were unable to ease their relegation fears as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat against Sampdoria, who had Vasco Regini sent off, while Livorno also remain in the bottom three following a 2-0 defeat at in-form Atalanta - who have now won their last five top-flight matches.
Cristian Ledesma was sent off as Lazio were beaten 2-0 at Genoa, while Nene scored the only goal as Cagliari got the better of Verona.
