Mesut Ozil believes Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti's lack of trust in him was a major reason behind his move to Arsenal.
Ozil moved to the Emirates Stadium on the final day of the transfer window for a club record fee, reportedly £42.5million, having spent three years at Real.
The Germany international has played a big part in helping Arsenal to the top of the Premier League and revealed he did not feel trusted by Ancelotti during his time in Spain.
Just six days before his move to England, Ozil stormed down the tunnel, having been substituted in Real's 1-0 win over Granada, visibly upset at the Italian's decision to withdraw him.
"It is very important for me that the coach shows faith in me and believes in me," Ozil told TF1.
"I had no doubt that I would stay at Real Madrid when last season came to an end. But then something happened and I no longer had the coach’s trust.
"At Arsenal on the other hand, I feel the exact opposite."
Following their 2-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday, Arsenal sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League. Ozil has featured 11 times for Arsene Wenger's side, scoring three times and racking up six assists.
The ex-Real Madrid supremo has criticised the Welsh star and the trainer of the team, as he thinks they do not have the right ingredients to be successful at the club
Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon does not believe that Gareth Bale or Carlo Ancelotti have strong enough personalities to cope with the pressure at the club.
Calderon feels Bale, a world-record signing from Tottenham, lacks the mental strength to deal with the expectations surrounding los Blancos like Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Bale seems to me like the opposite of what 'The Lion King' Ronaldo stands for," the 62-year-old told Tuttosport.
"Bale seems psychologically fragile to me, one who suffers. To play for Real, you must have nerves of steel. The pressure is bigger than at any other club in the world."
The ex-CEO also says Madrid's coach Ancelotti, who was brought in from Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for Jose Mourinho, is not the right man for the job.
"It seems to me that Ancelotti does not have the personality and charisma to lead Real Madrid," he continued.
"The team have yet to play a defined, organised and homogeneous football, and they concede too many goals.
"Among other things, I was surprised when they told me that in the summer he turned just 54. I saw him already close to retirement."
Microsoft in talks with Madrid over Bernabeu naming rights
By Henry Jackson138
Nov 6, 2013 2:37:00 PM
Maria Gahana, head of the Spanish branch of the computer giant, has confirmed that plans are in motion to re-name Los Blancos' iconic arena
Computer giant Microsoft has confirmed that it is in talks with Real Madrid over acquiring the naming rights for the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 85,000-seater stadium was inaugurated in 1947 and was named after former Blancos president Santiago Bernabeu Yeste.
However, Maria Gahan, head of Microsoft Spain, has now revealed that Madrid are keen to sell the naming rights for their home ground to the highest bidder.
"They have offered us, and other companies, the possibility of renaming the stadium,” she told Antena 3.
“We’re in talks, and that sums up where we are."
Current Madrid president Florentino Perez has already spoken of his intentions to find a sponsor for the iconic arena, admitting last month that a number of potential partners had already been approached.
The Spain international has no problem with putting the team's interests ahead of his own after he was used on the right on Tuesday night
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has made it clear that he will play in whatever position head coach Carlo Ancelotti needs him.
The 27-year-old featured as a right-back in Madrid's 2-2 Champions League draw against Juventus on Tuesday after mainly playing as centre-back in the past few seasons.
The Spain defender also operated as a holding midfielder in the 2-1 Clasico defeat to Barcelona last month but he has insisted that he does not have any problems with his changed position.
"Over the last few years, I’ve played more as a central defender, but I’m ready to help out wherever I’m needed," Ramos told the official Madrid website.
"The important thing is to be picked for the team. It’s nothing new for me playing as a full-back because I played there for many years and I have to help the team.
"The coach told me that it was just a temporary decision and I’m always ready to give my all in any position."
Ramos has made 14 appearances for Madrid in all competitions so far this season.
Pique doubtful for Betis encounter
7 November 2013
entre-back Gerard Pique is a doubt for Sunday's clash at Real Betis with a groin strain.
The 26-year-old featured for the Catalan giants in the 3-1 triumph over Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, but will now have medical tests to check on his availability for the weekend.
Pique has been struggling with the problem in the early stages of the season and head coach Gerardo Martino may take the opportunity to rest the Spain international when the side return to La Liga action on Sunday.
A statement on the club's website read: "Pique underwent tests (on Thursday) on his groin trouble.
"Developments over the next few days will determine whether he is fit enough to be considered for selection against Betis at the weekend."
Barcelona secured their spot in the Champions League knockout stages with the win over Milan in Group H.
Martino's men head into the Betis fixture unbeaten in the Spanish top flight since March and top of the table having amassed 34 points from a possible 36 this season.
Zubizarreta extends Barcelona stay
7 November 2013
Andoni Zubizarreta has agreed a new two-year deal to remain as sporting director at La Liga champions Barcelona.
The 52-year-old has been in the role since 2010, when he replaced Txiki Begiristain, and also enjoyed a spell playing for the club as a goalkeeper.
Zubizarreta is expected to put pen to paper in the coming days.
A statement on the club's webiste read: "Andoni Zubizarreta will continue as sporting director until the end of the 2015-16 season after terms were agreed for the extension of his contract on Thursday November 7.
"His present contract is due to expire at the end of June 2014, but he'll now be staying on an additional two years until June 30, 2016."
Zubizarreta is in his fourth season as sporting director at Camp Nou and has been partly responsible for securing the signatures of the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Jordi Alba.
He was also involved in the decision to name Tito Vilanova as Pep Guardiola's replacement as first-team manager, and subsequently the appointment of Gerardo Martino in the close-season after Vilanova resigned from the post for health reasons.
La Liga Preview: Real Madrid v Real Sociedad
8 November 2013
Real Madrid will look to in-form Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema for a 10th La Liga win this season against Real Sociedad.
The expensively assembled front three have been in lethal form in recent weeks for the Spanish giants, scoring all 12 of Real's goals between them in the past three matches.
Following their defeat to Barcelona in the Clasico last month, Real have seen Ronaldo score six times, while Benzema and Bale have both found the back of the net on three occasions.
That does not bode well for Sociedad, who have not beaten Saturday's hosts in their last 12 competitive meetings, a run that stretches back to May 2004.
Sociedad arrive at the Bernabeu unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, however - including a 0-0 draw with Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League in midweek - but they are 11 points behind their opponents in the league table.
It is their away form that has let them down this season - they have only won once in the league on the road - and midfielder Xabi Prieto knows that they will have to raise their game to get anything in the capital.
"We have to stay focused and play a good game if we are going to get something," Prieto said ahead of the match.
"Let's see if we can continue in the way that the team is playing on a big stage.
"We always expect a great Real Madrid, playing at home with the support of their fans, and we need our best."
Portuguese trio Ronaldo, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao all missed training for Madrid on Thursday but are expected to be fit for the clash.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti will have a decision to make about who starts in goal after Iker Casillas' fine performance against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, with Diego Lopez having started every league game so far this season.
Former Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero will not be available for the visitors after the 26-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in mid-September, while Diego Ifran is also out with a similar problem.
La Liga Preview: Betis next up for Barcelona, Atletico visit Villarreal
7 November 2013
Real Betis provide the latest threat to Barcelona's unbeaten La Liga record, while Atletico Madrid face a tough visit to Villarreal.
Gerardo Martino's Barcelona have endured a near flawless start, amassing 34 points from a possible 36 with a 0-0 draw against Osasuna the only blemish on their record.
A goal from Alexis Sanchez secured victory over city rivals Espanyol last time out, the club’s third successive league win.
Barcelona will be confident of making it four in a row given this weekend’s opponents sit 18th with just nine points to their name.
Betis have lost four of their last five La Liga fixtures and were beaten 3-2 at Malaga in their previous game as Samu grabbed a 94th-minute winner.
Second-placed Atletico are just one point behind Barcelona after winning 11 out of 12 league matches this term.
Diego Simeone's men have bounced back strongly since losing to Espanyol in October, racking up victories over Betis, Granada and Athletic Bilbao.
Yet they face a difficult challenge when they hit the road to face off against Villarreal.
Marcelino Toral's charges have impressed since gaining promotion from the Segunda Division and lie fourth with 23 points.
Elsewhere on Sunday, beleaguered Valencia manager Miroslav Djukic will hope to see his side earn a second straight league win when they welcome Real Valladolid, while Espanyol host Sevilla.
On Saturday, third-placed Real Madrid will aim to close the six-point gap to Barcelona as they host Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu.
Carlo Ancelotti's side have bounced back from losing El Clasico with consecutive triumphs, a 7-3 rout of Sevilla followed by a nervy 3-2 success at Rayo Vallecano.
One problem for Ancelotti could be who to utilise in goal, after Iker Casillas' fine performance in the 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw with Juventus in midweek.
Other fixtures on Saturday see Getafe welcome Elche, Levante travel to Athletic Bilbao and Celta Vigo host Rayo Vallecano.
On Friday, Almeria have the opportunity to leapfrog Osasuna when the two do battle at Estadio El Sadar, while Malaga travel to Granada.
La Liga Wrap: El-Arabi leads Granada to victory
9 November 2013
Moroccan striker Youssef El-Arabi struck a second-half hat-trick as Granada claimed their third win in four games in La Liga.
The southern Spanish club trumped rivals Malaga 3-1 on Friday thanks to El-Arabi's goals with Yacine Brahimi the other star for Granada, setting up his team-mate's latter two strikes at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.
Granada took the lead three minutes into the second half in front of their home fans and although Juanmi equalised for Malaga in the 54th minute, El-Arabi and Brahimi combined after 58 and 76 minutes to secure three points for the hosts.
The victory took Granada to eighth in La Liga with 17 points, two adrift of the Europa League positions, while Malaga (13 points) remain 12th.
The hosts' opening goal came after a mistake by Malaga defender Marcos Angeleri, who lost possession to Fran Rico, and while the Granada midfielder's shot was saved, El-Arabi was there to knock home the rebound.
Juanmi drew the visitors level six minutes later with a simple finish following a goalmouth scramble but Granada edged ahead again soon after as Brahimi cut the ball back to El-Arabi for a close-range finish.
Brahimi's second assist was top quality with the Algerian winger sending a diagonal reverse pass to El-Arabi on the edge of the area and the 26-year-old finished first-time past Malaga's Wilfredo Caballero.
In the other La Liga fixture on Friday, Almeria defeated Osasuna 1-0 with Rodri scoring the winner for the visitors in the 18th minute.
Osasuna goalkeeper Andres Fernandez failed to hold onto a corner from Sebastian Dubarbier and the ball fell straight to Rodri, who flicked it home with the outside of his left boot.
The goal secured Rodri's team their third straight win and took them out of the drop zone to 15th on 12 points, while Osasuna (10 points) slipped into relegation position vacated by Almeria.
Marcelo to miss Sociedad clash with knee injury
9 November 2013
Real Madrid have confirmed that defender Marcelo is suffering from traumatic athritis in his left knee.
The Brazil international reportedly picked up a knock in Friday's training session ahead of Saturday's visit of Real Sociedad and has now been diagnosed with traumatic arthritis.
And the 25-year-old, who missed five games in September because of a hamstring problem, now faces another spell on the sidelines after being excluded from Real's squad for the game against Sociedad.
No timetable has been set for Marcelo's return, leaving manager Carlo Ancelotti short of options at left-back after Fabio Coentrao sustained an ankle injury in the 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano last weekend.
A statement on Real's official website read: "Following examinations and scans carried out today Marcelo at Sanitas-La Moraleja hospital, he has been diagnosed with traumatic arthritis in the left knee."
Ancelotti's men sit six points adrift of league leaders Barcelona ahead of the clash with Sociedad, and the Italian is expecting the Basque outfit to present a difficult challenge.
"Real Sociedad is a good team with a good attitude," he said.
"They're very dynamic and have fast players. It won’t be an easy match. They already proved against Manchester United that they can play major games and it's a really good test for us because we need to play well and with intensity."
La Liga Preview: Real Betis v Barcelona
9 November 2013
Barcelona will look to stretch their unbeaten record in La Liga to 25 matches when they face Real Betis on Sunday.
The league leaders have not lost since a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in March and they are the only side still unbeaten after the opening 12 matches of this season.
Things are not quite so positive for Betis, who are languishing in the bottom three in the table and have not won in five league games.
However, their triumph over Vitoria Guimaraes in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday will give them a boost heading into the clash with Barca.
Chuli's last-minute winner in Portugal lifted a little bit of the pressure on manager Pepe Mel, but recording back-to-back victories will be a tall order.
Betis have not beaten Barca in their last four attempts and the Catalan side have won 20 of the 36 clashes.
That record makes midfielder Xavi confident of going into the international break with another victory.
"It is important to finish well this cycle of seven or eight games between La Liga and the Champions League," he said.
"The balance is positive and I think that we have proven to be excellent in terms of the results, but we can be improved at a collective level. Even so, we are on a good line.
"We are at a good level and we know the demands for Barca."
Carles Puyol and Marc Bartra are expected to start together in central defence for the second time in three league matches as Martino looks to rest Javier Mascherano and Gerard Pique struggles with a groin injury.
Jordi Alba continues be unavailable with a hamstring injury, while Jonathan dos Santos and Ibrahim Afellay are still recovering from knee injuries.
Betis' problems are worsened by their injury woes; Mel has eight players unavailable, including Damien Perquis (broken jaw) and Juanfran (hamstring).
However, Paulao and Antonio Amaya both returned to training this week and could be involved, while Javi Chica is back from suspension.
Lionel Messi seems to have rediscovered his swagger for Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are certainly showing some at Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid's upstarts appear to be maintaining theirs.
The top three teams in the Spanish league are all on winning runs going into the weekend, with leader Barcelona and Madrid both on three-game winning streaks. Second-place Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, just clinched its place in the last 16 of the Champions League after a fourth straight win.
Here are five things to know about this weekend's games:
MESSI SCORING AGAIN
Messi's brace in Wednesday's 3-1 win over AC Milan gave the Argentine his first goals at the Camp Nou since late September. But Messi still hasn't scored for four league games, which hasn't happened since 2010-11.
While Messi still looks slightly bothered by his hamstring, his teammates insist their star is fine heading into Sunday's game at Real Betis.
"He looks good to me. You can always play better as a team, you can always score more goals," midfielder Xavi Hernandez said. "But he's finding his game, just like the team is."
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique injured his hamstring against Milan and is questionable to face Betis, which is 18th and in the drop zone.
BALE ADAPTING
While Ronaldo has been scoring at a staggering pace to start this season, new teammate Gareth Bale is quietly adapting to his new surroundings and making Madrid's attack more prolific.
The world's most expensive football player has scored three goals and provided four assists in his last three games, helping boost Madrid's attack, especially with Karim Benzema also in good form.
Bale's emergence has led to some changes in Madrid's squad, with playmaking midfielder Isco seeing his time cut drastically, while Angel di Madrid has also been coming off the bench more often. Mesut Ozil's decision to leave appears wiser with each passing game as Arsenal contends for the Premier League title and Bale taking playing time away from other midfielders.
Real Madrid welcomes Real Sociedad to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday.
UNRELENTING ATLETICO
While striker Diego Costa and coach Diego Simeone are grabbing most of the headlines about Atletico's success, playmaker Koke is quietly developing into one of Spain's top midfielders.
Koke and Simeone were recognized as the Spanish league's best player and coach in October, and the 21-year-old is certainly a big part of the reason Costa has scored a joint league-leading 13 goals this season.
Koke's emergence also provides Spain with another talent in the middle going into the World Cup, a position where it contains an abundant of wealth in the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, David Silva, and Juan Mata.
"Atletico is disciplined and ordered," Austria Vienna coach Nenad Bjelica said after losing 4-0 to Atletico in the Champions League. "You have to take them very seriously as a candidate to win the Champions League."
YELLOW SUBMARINE SURFACING
Villarreal doesn't appear to have lost a step since returning to top-flight football after a season in the second division.
"The Yellow Submarine" is alone in fourth place following a dramatic stoppage time winner over Elche on Monday.
They will get a real test on Sunday when Atletico visits El Madrigal, especially with Mexican forward Giovanni Dos Santos sidelined for the match with a leg injury. Defender Bojan Jokic returns from a left leg injury.
"They've already lost one game away so that gives us belief that we can beat them," defender Jaume Costa said.
MADRID'S MICROSOFT STADIUM?
Real Madrid may be the world's richest club but it is still operating in a time of a troubled domestic economy. Club president Florentino Perez had said the club would look at selling naming rights to its famed Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, and an investor appears to be on the horizon.
Microsoft is reportedly in talks to rename the stadium.
"We have an excellent relationship with Real Madrid and in fact we recently signed an agreement with its foundation," Microsoft Spain president Maria Garana told Antena 3 TV station. "They've raised, as have other companies, renaming the stadium and we're only talking about this possibility."
Madrid is football's biggest money-maker and the first sports team anywhere to break the ¤500 million ($675 million) revenue barrier.
La Liga Wrap: Bilbao return to form, Ronaldo scores 19th league hat-trick
10 November 2013
Athletic Bilbao returned to winning ways in La Liga on Saturday as Cristiano Ronaldo netted yet another hat-trick for Real Madrid.
Bilbao, winless in their previous two league matches, came from behind and scored twice in the final 18 minutes in a 2-1 win over Levante.
David Barral had given the visitors a first-half lead at the Estadio San Mames, but Mikel Rico levelled for Bilbao on 72 minutes.
Substitute Aritz Aduriz was the hero with an 84th-minute effort before he was sent off for Ernesto Valverde's men, who moved into fifth.
But Bilbao's winless run looked set to continue when Barral put Levante ahead on 34 minutes as Jordi Xumetra set him up after beating his marker down the right.
The striker was denied by Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz from close range but reacted quickly to poke home the rebound.
The visitors only had themselves to blame for conceding an equaliser with 18 minutes remaining.
Goalkeeper Keilor Navas' unconvincing punch from a cross fell for Rico to volley into the bottom corner from inside the area.
The winner was a well-worked move and Aduriz – sent off in the second minute of additional time – got on the end of an Ander Iturraspe cross from the right to head in from just inside the box.
Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo's 19th La Liga hat-trick helped Real Madrid cruise to a 5-1 win over Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu.
The away side started the match brightly, but Ronaldo gave Real an early lead as he fired home following Karim Benzema's pin-point left-wing delivery, before the Portuguese returned the favour for his French team-mate for the second soon after.
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said before the match that he would not rotate Ronaldo - who has now scored nine goals in his past four games - while he is in such a rich vein of form, and the former Manchester United man repaid that faith by slotting in a penalty for his 161st La Liga goal and Real's third of the game on 26 minutes.
World-record signing Gareth Bale set up Sami Khedira for the fourth goal before the break, and although Antoine Griezmann scored in a fifth successive match for Sociedad after the break, Ronaldo ensured he would leave with the match ball by burying a 76th-minute free-kick.
In other matches, Getafe and Elche played out a 1-1 draw and Rayo Vallecano moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory at Celta de Vigo.
La Liga Wrap: Barcelona extend lead, Atletico held
11 November 2013
Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga to three points after a comfortable 4-1 win at Real Betis on Sunday.
The visitors were dealt a blow after 20 minutes when Lionel Messi had to be withdrawn with a hamstring problem, but it did little to disrupt Gerardo Martino's side, who went into the break two goals to the good.
Neymar claimed the first 10 minutes before the interval, tapping home after being set up by Cesc Fabregas, before Pedro ran from his own half to finish in fine style a minute later.
Fabregas found the net with a simple finish on 63 minutes, before netting his second 11 minutes from time with a header from Dani Alves' cross.
Alves then brought down Javier Matilla inside the box in stoppage time, Jorge Molina sending Victor Valdes the wrong way from the spot to spoil the leaders' clean sheet.
That result for Barcelona put daylight between themselves and Atletico Madrid, who dropped points for only the second time this season when they were held 1-1 at fourth-placed Villarreal.
Diego Simeone's side got off to a dream start when Mario Gaspar put through his own net in the third minute, but the hosts replied through another own goal, Juanfran deflecting the ball into his own net with 11 minutes remaining.
It brought to an end Atletico's run of three consecutive victories as they lost ground on the leaders.
Valencia's troubled start to the season continued as they twice had to come from behind to earn a 2-2 at home with struggling Real Valladolid.
Javi Guerra put the visitors in front in the ninth minute, Dorlan Pabon equalising 20 minutes later.
Gilberto Garcia put Valladolid ahead for a second time five minutes after the break, but substitute Sofiane Feghouli ensured the points were shared with his 76th-minute equaliser.
Elsewhere, Sevilla bounced back from two consecutive defeats with a 3-1 win away at 10-man Espanyol.
Federico Fazio put the visitors ahead as early as the third minute, wih Vitolo doubling the advantage seven minutes later.
Sergio Garcia pulled a goal back for the hosts midway through the first half, but Carlos Bacca made the game safe for Sevilla with a goal in the 59th minute.
Espanyol, who are now winless in four matches, saw Victor Sanchez dismissed for a second bookable offence five minutes before the end as Sevilla climbed above their opponents in the table.
Cesc Fabregas will miss Spain's friendlies with Equatorial Guinea and South Africa due to a knee problem.
The 26-year-old suffered discomfort in his right knee during Barcelona's 4-1 victory over Real Betis on Sunday, but still managed to score twice in the second half.
After receiving the results of tests from Barcelona's medical team, the Spanish Football Federation have opted to take Fabregas out of their squad.
Uncapped defender Marc Bartra, a team-mate of Fabregas at club level, has been called up as a replacement.
Reigning world and European champions Spain face Equatorial Guinea on November 16 and South Africa three days later.
Fabregas boasts 86 caps for his country, having made his debut as a teenager in 2006.
The Argentine suffered a hamstring tear against Betis on Sunday and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, while Cesc Fabregas has pulled out of the Spain squad due to injury
Barcelona have confirmed that Lionel Messi will miss the next six to eight weeks of action with a tear in his left hamstring.
The Argentine, who has been plagued by injuries since the turn of the year, limped out of his side's game against Betis in Seville on Sunday after 21 minutes.
The club promptly announced that the 26-year-old was set to undergo further tests and it has been determined that Messi will miss between six to eight weeks with the knock.
As a result of his injury, Messi is likely to miss the games against Granada, Ajax, Celtic, Villarreal and Getafe, as well as both legs of the Copa del Rey clash with Cartagena.
Messi has had a string of similar injuries in 2013. He was forced to sit out much of the tail end of last season with a hamstring problem, which reoccurred at the end of September.
Despite Messi's absence against Betis, Tata Martino's side triumphed 4-1, thanks to goals from Neymar and Pedro along with a Cesc Fabregas double.
Meanwhile, Fabregas has been forced to pull out of the Spain squad for the upcoming friendlies against Guinea and South Africa with a knee injury.
The former Arsenal captain was withdrawn 10 minutes from full-time against Betis and has been replaced in the Roja set up by club mate Marc Bartra.
Real Betis midfielder Nosa Igiebor is set to be out of action until January due to a chronic thigh injury
The 23-year-old Nigeria international travelled to Portugal for the club's UEFA Europa League clash against Vitoria Guimaraes last Thursday but was unable to play after feeling severe discomfort.
Tests showed that the midfielder was suffering with enthesopathy in the adductor muscle of his left leg, which requires surgery to correct.
Nosa, who has scored once in 10 appearances for Pepe Mel's side this term, is not expected to return to action until the new year.
He will subsequently be unavailable for Nigeria for their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Ethiopia on Saturday, having come off the bench in their 2-1 first-leg victory.
Betis sit bottom of La Liga with nine points from their opening 13 league fixtures and were beaten 4-1 by champions Barcelona on Sunday.
La Liga outfit Malaga are in talks to sign former Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun, according to general manager Vicente Casado.
The Israel international has been looking for a club since being released by Chelsea in the close-season.
Benayoun has been linked with a possible move to join Championship side QPR, but he could now return to Spain where he previously had a three-year stint with Racing Santander.
However, as the 33-year-old holds a non-EU passport, Casado confirmed one of the club's three non-EU players would have to be moved out to make space for Benayoun.
Speaking to La Opinion De Malaga, Casado said: "We are in contact with some interesting players.
"One of them is Benayoun, but he's not already signed.
"He is a non-EU player and if he comes, one of the other non-EU players, Weligton, (Roberto) Chen or (Pedro) Morales, should leave."
Malaga have had an inauspicious start to the season, taking 13 points from as many La Liga fixtures, a return that leaves Bernd Schuster's men in 14th position.
They resume their league campaign at home to Athletic Bilbao after the international break.
Bendtner: I want to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona next
By Liam Twomey373
Nov 18, 2013 9:14:00 AM
When asked where he could see himself playing next following Denmark's friendly victory over Norway, the Arsenal striker revealed he is looking to join one of Spain's giants
Nicklas Bendtner has revealed he wants a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona when he leaves Arsenal.
Bendtner attempted to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer having fallen out of favour with Arsene Wenger, but is now training with the first team again as back-up for Olivier Giroud.
And the 25-year-old, who has previously faced criticism for perceived arrogance, also insisted he does not consider money to be the most important factor when choosing a new club.
When asked whether he 'chases the money', Bendtner told Politiken: "I do not. It is the sport that is the most important. I'm going somewhere where I know I can be happy to play.
"With a team where I can score goals and preferably to win something. I do not want to be sitting on the bench and staring. I love playing lots of games."
Then, when pressed on where he saw his next club, the Gunners striker replied: "If I could decide, Real Madrid or Barcelona."
It had been suggested that los Blancos might try to strengthen their injury-hit midfield during the winter break but the Italian coach feels he has the strength in depth to cope
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out signing a replacement for Sami Khedira during the January transfer window, explaining that he could just "change the formation completely".
The international break has not been kind to los Blancos, with Germany's Khedira having been ruled out for at least six months with cruciate ligament damage sustained against Italy just a day before fellow midfielder Xabi Alonso picked up a knock in Spain's clash with Equatorial Guinea.
However, with the latter expected to be back in action very soon, and Madrid boasting a strong squad, Ancelotti does not feel the Liga giants need to strengthen during the January transfer window.
“We are not thinking about signing anyone," the Italian coach is quoted as saying by AS at the launch of his new book.
“We’ve had bad luck - particularly with Khedira. Xabi, fortunately, just took a knock. But Khedira is a very important player who brings equilibrium to the side and, without him, we need to find a solution.
"I’m sure we can sort something out in his absence, which is an significant setback for us.
“We have a few options open to us. We can fill his role with another player with similar characteristics or change the system completely.
"We just need to make sure that whatever system we employ, the players are all comfortable."
It has been suggested that Ancelotti has been put under pressure to pick world-record signing Gareth Bale this season, in spite of the Welshman's fitness problems, but the former AC Milan coach insists he has never had a club president interfere in his team selections.
“Nobody has ever told me which players I should field," he declared. "I was in constant contact with [Rossoneri owner Silvio] Berlusconi but only because I feel that every coach should give explanations to their superiors.
"But it wouldn’t be right for a president to tell the coach who to pick."
Ancelotti, though, was reluctant to be drawn on whether Cristiano Ronaldo should attend the upcoming Ballon d'Or ceremony in light of controversial comments made by Fifa president Sepp Blatter about the Portugal international.
“You have to ask Cristiano that," he stated. "Only he is able to say what’s best for him."
Blatter had expressed a preference for Lionel Messi over Ronaldo, claiming that "one spends more time in the hairdressers than the other".
