From the views of SMRT workers, this chap is extremely "yaya papaya".
He has pissed off many of the old birds in SMRT and a lot of them were either asked or forced to leave.
He has been recruiting a lot of his old time SAF buddies to join SMRT.
He is no difference from that Saw in practicing nepotism and does not knows how to treasure the experience staffs.

Based on several recent train breakdown cases, he didn't and can't do much to improve the maintenance of the trains, tracks and systems.
All trains, tracks and system are still very worn down and waiting for more screw ups.
He has a pair of eyes on his forehead and only knows how to manage using his helicopter vision.
A very wayang chap who knows how to present himself well right in front of the media and TV.
He has no substance, experience and even knowledge about trains even though he is trained in engineering science from Oxford.
 
He has done an excellent job over the past year and the huge improvement in SMRT operations is there for all to see.

This proves beyond doubt that the SAF produces leaders of high calibre who can take charge of any situation or organisation.

That shows he has his priorities right and is concentrating on service levels and long term reliability. This requires large amounts of capital expenditure and an increase in overheads.

Under the previous CEO, SMRT lost its way and concentrated on non core areas instead of operations. The retail outlets brought huge profits while the train service played 2nd fiddle.

LTA is imposing financial penalties of S$860,000 on SMRT for four separate incidents that happened in 2012 and 2013.
The heaviest penalty of S$300,000 is for the Newton station trackside fire incident in February this year.

Nearly 18,000 passengers were affected.

LTA said SMRT had committed several lapses. These include detraining passengers at Newton station rather than at an earlier station further away from the fire.

SMRT was also slapped with a S$60,000 penalty for a train launching incident at Bukit Panjang LRT depot in July this year.

Years of mismanagement cannot be fixed overnight. However, I have full confidence that he's taking the SMRT to greater heights. In a couple of year's time, all these incidences will be but distant memories.

Using your logic the citizens (you) chose the PAP (govt) to run the show so that makes all the problems of the SMRT your fault. Why didn't the citizens fix the problem back in the 2011 elections.

I have to agree with some points above. People hammer Saw for not doing her job. So if that is true, it cannot be expected that the next feller can just turn the ship ard by just snapping his fingers. It takes time.

Sometimes critics are not so consistent. While you can grouse that he is not trained in area of public transport, and he hired a bunch of SAF men you think are not cut out for the job, etc. To conclude he cannot succeed based on 1 year is quite ridiculous and inconsistent with the claim Saw was completely negligent and must have under maintained the system.

Saw had one goal and one alone and that was profitability and she achieved it by concentrating on the secondary retail income instead of the primary operation which is to provide public transport to the masses.

The share price soared and the shareholders were happy. Those that realised that there was a ticking time bomb on their hands quit the scene and left her to her own devices.

so Saw has no choice but to improve revenue and cut maintenance cost and that is why we have the problems today.
