Long queues were formed outside the two IKEA stores on Friday, 8 Mar 2013. It sold a total of 249,375 meatballs in one day, at just 10 cents a piece to mark its return in the restaurants. The meatball's normal price is about 50 cents each. IKEA Singapore had temporarily stopped the sale of the meatballs last week after Czech authorities found traces of horsemeat in one batch of meatballs. A local independent lab has confirmed that there is no horsemeat in the Singapore meatballs.
'Our suppliers are not from the affected area. We’ve always been very confident, but we took that precaution step because customers’ trust is our main priority. Today’s offer is a way to thank their support and to reinforce their confidence,' says Mr Gary Chng, Assistant Manager of IKEA F&B.
