SINGAPORE - A bar manager was fined S$8,000 today for living off the earnings of his pub's performing artistes who doubled up as prostitutes.

Balamurugan Thiyanamuthi, 30, pleaded guilty to one charge of living off the earnings of three Filipina prostitutes, and another charge of managing the trade.

The offences were committed between October last year and March this year.

The women, who were issued work permits as performing artistes, worked for him at Trafford Bar at 128 Arab Street.

Thiyanamuthi told the trio, who were between 22 and 29 years old, that they were also expected to provide sexual services to customers, where half of their earnings would go towards him.

Court documents revealed that Thiyanamuthi received between $100 and $1,500 each time.

He was arrested on Mar 29, this year.

MediaCorp understands that one of the women has been sent back to the Philippines while the rest are helping with investigations in Singapore.
