When u buy from HARVEY NORMANi....they usually try to push u to buy their extended warranty....THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO CON YOU TO FORK OUT MORE MONEY TO THEM...IT IS JUST A CON JOB!!!!...dis is what they usually do....if ur product got problem and it is under their extended warranty, when you bring it to them, they will keep the product and tell you no spare parts so got to wait for xx no of weeks....DONT BELEIVE THEM..they just put inside the storeroom and hope to get some 2nd hand parts to replace..if there is none, then they will continue keeping it and tell u manufacturer got no spare parts, so got to wait longer....dis trick has been used quite often by all other fucking IT megastores like court and best denk......they will never allow any 1-to-1 exchange....dont believe if the salesman say there is to entice to buy the extended warranty..they are lying to you..so beware when buying extended warranty...also read the T/C closely before you decide to take the chance and buy....FUCKING HARVEY NORMAN !!!!!!!!!!!!! BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!!!:oIo:

Harvey Norman repairer Kwiktron
Hi guys,
Anyone hv bad encounters with this repairer?
I sent in my toshiba laptop and now it's been 3mths n still not repair yet!
They tell me no parts and hv ordered frm toshiba n will take 8weeks but now it's taken more than that.
What should i do now. I call up Harvey Norman but no progress.
This will be my last purchase frm hardly normal store

That doesn't happen in the Harvey Norman stores in OZ and NZ. They'd be in deep shit if they tried to pull such a stunt.

Just from their army style advert over radio - I'm not buying from HN, extended warranty or not.

Cheers!

It does not work that way for extended warranty. The warranty is covered by the agents, not the reseller of the brand. I have an extended warranty for 4 years from my Samsung TV from Best Denki. After 3 years it broke down and the agent came and change my TV's PCB. No problem.

It depends. In most cases extended warranties are a product by itself. It is similar to actuaries calculating the lifespan for endowment policies. In this case, they work out that out of 1,000 sets for which extended warranty has been sold, 2 will have to be honoured. Their breakeven is probably 50 sets. Some of them even have good margins that they give you a brand new set if you turn up and the problem is minor.

Consumers must also adopt a similar approach. You buy insurance for important things but not for everything. Sometimes the product cycle is so short that it might not even be worth the extended warranty.

the brand itself only give certain period of warranty.
the extended warranty is only covered by the store itself and usually outsource.

Most brands esp the Japs give extended warranty of their own-for a price of course.
So far no problems with the Japanese brands.
If warranty direct from manufacturer, no way they can wriggle out.

aiya..those extended warranty dat is being aggressively push by the salesman are their in-house warranty lah......they get some commission from selling them...dat why when you buy any product from havey norman or courts..they usually try to psycho you to buy their "extended warranty"....it is different from the manufacturer extended warranty.....that they will not be so on the ball to push you to buy becos they donch get commission for it.....ming pek buay?

Yours is the norm. There are always born losers around.

Something worth getting extended warranty for is Apple Care.

My 20" sharp LCD bought 9 years ago at $999 broke down on it's 4th, and I called HN then and they send a tech down to take the set back and was asked to waited for 2 weeks. And they called back citing no spare parts and asked me to bring down my tax invoice with a case number to any branch to initiate a product exchange within $999. So I change it to a new Mitsubishi 3 door fridge.

Shortly after the exchange my other sharp 37" LCD then at $3k also broke down went thru the same process of waiting period and was told of the same no repair , proceed to file claim. I exchange a new 9kg Fischer paykel washer a 8kg Fischer paykel dryer, plus a new sharp FHDLCD 37" and kenwood master chef kitchen mixer.

And also have an LG HTS broken down on 5th year was repaired within a week after I brought it down to the agent at outram. 4 year old Compaq CQ45 120tx laptop with the touch multimedia bar and LCD gone bersek was duly repaired by agent in sim lim.

But best is AppleCare, I got a MacBook 6 years ago from singtel bb promo, the MacBook hdd was dead within first week was repair by epic centre at then lane crawford branch, then 2nd hdd failure occured within 6 months , then 2 years on the battery went dead, then the combo drive , airport card, MagSafe adapter recalled, palm rest board, track pad, faulty LCD and finally the replaced battery went dead was recalled. All this was replaced and done covered by AppleCare . Superb servicing and 6 years on the MacBook is still going strong except for having on 80% battery capacity after 400 charge cycles.

Plus my 2nd generation 20 gb iPod classic was given 1 to 1 exchange when I went for battery change after 8 years plus the same engraving words .

The only problem I had with retail chain offer extend warranty is cts and dbest.

Dbest And cts for failure to replace a portable induction hob and mosquito repellent respectively with both refunding only 20% of the product price paid afer couple of years, where HN offer full refund of initial paid price in tax invoice or product 1 to 1 exchange or product amount to the total sum.

So after a decade buying from HN I still buy from them.

过路稻草人 obviously is working in Harvey Norman... I'll not believe a word he say...

I read your post and am shocked. Why so many problems on branded goods. Also looks like you have been taken. No parts for TV so you got fridge instead. Next TV down and you got washing machine. You should not allow people to take advantage of you.

I have this bad luck thingy that lots of stuff that purchased over the years tends to break down fairly often thus when I buy consumer electronic goods, I will purchase the extend warranty. If there is OEM warranty like ACER 3years warranty for my desktop, I will buy it and thru enough on the second year the cooling fan and power supply went kaput. And ACER did a on site repair with the next workingpolicy.

The washer and dryer plus 37" LCD exchange was what I and my family wanted . Just as I moved house in need to of new 3 item. Plus my mrs got a new mixer in the deal. The exchanged LCD retail 1299, washer -849 , dryer at 899 and the mixer 1099. Thus I did the exchange . Also the old LCD was using a external tuner box as compare to the one I am using was fatter only with a 580i resolution .

After series of breakdowns , buying even table inverter lamp for my daughter usage I too get extra coverage and thru the lamp transformer act up, with the repair covered by best, sending me to panasonic while they pay for the repair.

With a 養鳥變公雞 life, I rather spend a bit more to get some coverage.

I am fazed why does established brand like sharp always have breakdown issue with their TV , supposingly all earlier model even for 20" series are made in their Japan factory. It no longer justify the heftier price as compare to other Korean counterparts eg Samsung and LG. With 4 LCDs 20", 32" and 2 37" from them and having 2 broke down , I make a switch to Samsung for my 27" LED monitor from Global IT at SLS.
