Read on the ST about his remarks on NCMP, is this guy dreaming to become a minister collecting million dollars paycheck, now por lan par the PAP leadership?

NCMP is loser but at least they have over 40% of 'mandate' (e.g. Sylvia, JBJ). And what 'mandate' this Calvin Cheng have to talk in parliament?

Calvin wants to date the man who likes to wear pink shirt & eat mee Siam mai hum..that is his mandate:D

The lower house of parliament is 100% elected in almost all countries.
Both Calvin and Sylvia are not peoples representatives and don't belong to parliament.
and NCMP is not Proportional Representation.

I'm not against non elected peoples who wish to be in parliament but do downgrade them to observer status - no voting rights at all, no seats in select committees, cannot introduce bills. They can only raise and debates issues in parliament.

otherwise create a upper house for them.

But then again, SINkingpore parliament is not a parliament!, it is an aviary, where we have a collection of different types of 'birds', singing a different tune to the same song; on music score given out by HIS MASTER'S VOICE:D

In terms of legitimacy I would rank them in the following order beginning from the highest:

1. Opposition MP

2. Elected MP

3. NCMP

4. Walkover MP

5. NMP

Opposition MPs fight tooth and nail to win without govt resource. Elected MP from PAP also fight, fair enough, but have institutions like PA to help build a base.

If you argue that NCMP did not win enough votes so no mandate, you can also argue that opposition MP and Elected MP didn't win 100% of the votes, if they got 51% of the votes, they are still representing 49% of the people who didn't vote for them. Why?

Walkover MP and NMP is the worst, but the former at least spend $ on election and make some effort. NMP, nothing. No $, no effort put in.

IMO, lower house of parliament should be 100% people representatives

thus NCMP have lost their elections, are rejected by their voters so they shouldn't be in parliament.
MP A win a 3 corner fight with 40% votes. There are 60% who didn't vote for him but this is the voting system, we need a winner to represent the constituency.
MP A got the highest mandate to be his constituency MP, NCMP have a rejected mandate.

Talk abt por lan par MP/NMP, just another one rings my memory. From a reliable source, a current PAP MP when first 'elected' into parliament (in a non-contested GRC), always dreaming n talk big in his work place, blar blar one day he will become a minister/MOS.... not sure still the same working pattern now (still working in the same organisation). Not many employee in the organisation like his working pattern.

And if you go thru his parliamentary speeches etc, most of its always por the top PAP leaders esp LKY.

Thankfully, top PAP leaders have the eye open and he still just a backbencher MP. Last GE2006, he was moved to one of the super heavyweight uncontested GRC.

Ideally, stick to basics. Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS), remember?

1 man 1 vote.
He who got the most votes win.
Seat vacant - hold by-election.

No GRC/NCMP/NMP etc etc.

The day someone equate any result against him as 'a freak result' is the day things start sliding down the slippery slope with all kinds of smart-aleck 'innovations' packaged in the 'national' interest.

Whatever their ills, Malaysians still keep to the true spirit of things.
1 man 1 vote - MP die/resign, by-election.
Automatic.
Bravo.

Imho, Parliament should always be reserved for people who actually fought in the GE, including those who lost but polled a decent % of the popular vote such as Sylvia Lim. People like NMP Calvin Cheng is several notches down in terms of legitimacy! These people got into Parliament without even raising a sweat. They were basically interviewed for the job, if u don't mind.:D:D What a laugh! I believe only the Singapore Parliament has NMP and NCMP. Truly Uniquely Singapore.

The best is to go back to what the British laid down here. No NCMP, NMP, GRC, high deposits etc. Basically everything has changed except first past the post. If Britain goes for PR, people won't believe Singapore came from Britain 100 years later.

I know Calvin & Hobbs.
LOL ! That comic strip you mean ....

Calvin Cheng ? Who ?

right, Calvin, Cheng-Hu.

he was interviewed & appointed NMP by Govt, discovered to be an Young PAP member & embarrassingly, resigned from YPAP to comply with the non-partisanship requirement.

That Calvin guy.. cannot make it lor.. Agreed with Sylvia's remark.. Interviewed for the post only. Still want to talk like so big fuck...
Got balls, next election go contest lor....

I LOVE Syvia's quoted remarks on Calvin : It is ironic for someone who is in this august chamber because of an interview ..... LOLLL ! :oIo:
As an NMP making snide remarks on NCMPs, he is basically bending over & asking for his arsehole to be violated !

Silvia, tua neh bu, Lim is my fav. I will vote for her!

But I thought our parliament is actually a stage where all the MPs are just actors to wayang wayang for the rest of us to see..:D:D

In any case, MPs who come thru the backdoor of GRC, I don't view them as been legally elected. My vote may have been cast for a certain person in that group representing my constituency but it does not mean it goes to the other members too...
