Wedding is a commitment of two persons but finances are usually not managed on equal footings. Many men pay for most items in the household while their wives keep a secret slash under the bed. Officially, it is like a reserve for rainy days, and I know they are probably well-intended.

For myself, I screwed up my investments in most part of my life. Lately, when I asked her to give me some of these savings to buy some shares during the recent meltdown, she wept. For years, I generously wipe out my own money for household expenses and naively think that my wife is different from other women; my money was hers, and her money was also mine.

I didn't expect her to cry. While she teared, I was quite sure that I was the sadder soul. Truly disheartened but not angry with her. Like a gambler who asked home for money to recoup his losses, it also says a lot about how my wife thinks about me.

I know, just like many other couples.
Wife's money is her money. My money is ours

I am sorry to hear of your current plight. So biggest lesson learnt here: don't get married. Its better to stay single.

marry a rich man's daughter or high earning girl as wife .... she wont be bothered with your earnings and will contribute the family more with her spare cash.
