Thaipusam used to be a public holiday. How come it got scraped?

Because it's a Tamil festival and not a Hindi festival ?
 
Tamils also celebrate Pongal, similar to 春节.

Christians used to have 4 public holidays ie Xmas day and Boxing day, Easter Friday and Easter Monday. In attempt to allocate public holidays more fairly boxing day and easter monday were removed so that Xtians were left with 2. The Chinese were allocated the same number while the Malays, Buddhists and Tamils one each so Hari Raya Haji was removed and so too was Thaipusam.

Malays gets many days off. Hari raya 3, muslim new year? 1, nuzul quran? 1prophet Mohamed birthday 1.
Chinese two.indians two. Deepavali plus thaipusam.
Dayaks, melanau, dusun, sulu, kadazan, bajau, ...2 for dawai or keamatan.
Christian 2. Christmas and new year.

If you have more public holidays ,there will be less people slaving away to produce goods and services to support the multimillion dollar minister salaries.
In a govt where serfs need to be cheaperer, bettterer and fasterer , less public holidays the better.

When ministers travel on official trips or business trips ,they are considered working. No need to apply leave.:biggrin:

Hari raya Haji is a pblic holiday in Singapore. It is too significant to Islam to be removed.
