Golden Mile Complex to be conserved

Knew the owner of this building , the Yong family ...a big time developer in the 60s and 70s ...one of the son lived just upstairs in this very building and quite a character , even those days had live broadcasts of HK horse racing thingy , one of ex chief of the Beach Rd police station was under his employment so he was sort of an untouchable
The other brother was the fatty Yong who use to do Grand Prix circuit in the 60s , think the first guy to race in the then Jaguar E type and died when the the car turned and crushed him to death

The building is ugly. Inside u feel like walking in Geylang Rd.

Never like the feel of walking inside..

Simply because it offered the cheapest rent with the smallest office space , quite famous for all the 2 dollar fly by night companies , there use to be billiard board station right below the car park level , all sorts of fights and a heaven for ah lians and ah Bengs ..and to think , such a place as this and equivalently notorious golden mile tower just adjacent with beach police station just a stone throw away ...but there was right at the bottom a steam boat and chicken rice stall ...ate there many armies , truly class

Just bcos it's built in the 60s and by locals, architectural wise also nothing compared to the colonial bdgs. Better tear it down, save the eye sore.

When the Thaikok kia food stalls started the place stinks and smell shits. And add coach bus terminal for going to Hatyai add more shits to it with Thaikok whores everywhere.

It is an eye sore from the start, a piece of shit design with the plants hanging down like unshaved pussy cheebye hairs dangling...

Glad to know you needed a two-year study to realize you shouldn't destroy heritage for money.

Already done enough damage over the years.

You gotta be kidding. Its typical PAP. Destroy quaint malay kampung but preserve horrendous chinese architecture.

totally agreed with all..... Golden Mile is really a thing of the past with nothing to do with heritage, not to mention prolonging its ugly stories within
our gahmen has always their nonsensical touches in putting these rights....
in fact, that corner could have been another fantastic regime if the whole stretch from ex-SAFINCO, Rochor and all-the-way to G. Mile/Beach Road across Sultan's stretch
again, many BS coming out soon!

If you think Golden Mile is ugly, you should see some of the newer buildings.

You know why such ugly structure are classified as heritage ?

there are some people behind pulling the strings which the public are unaware of

for example you know that fly over next to SGH deliberately making a funny turn ? Because the shop houses right below belonged to one of fucking decision maker family , so instead of being straight it made a peculiar turn

forces are behind this golden mile charade

Another eye sore at Oxley rd, it's an old half stone half wood house. Pls tear it down, ASAP.

That one can conserve... with stone statues of Loong and Ho kneeling on either side of its entrance.

Maybe donate it to the nearby Buddhist Lodge.

Golden mile architecture design is out of place because it seems cold, blocky and industrial. This kind of design is known as Brutalism and was popular in Europe and Russia in the 60s until early 80s.

Since the 90s many brutalist design buildings have been torn down but there's been a resurgence of interest to preserve brutalist structures.

There are some old iconic sinkie flats and buildings that are brutalist - the OCBC building and the peoples park

They are preserving two famous names, Liu Kang the famous artist father; Liu Thai Ker the famous HDB architect of Golden Mile.

This Golden Mile Building is the epitome of Grand Silliness in design.
