$1.40, what can you expect? Fish or chicken thigh? Even if the rental is cheaper than outside, the number of plates can be sold is heavily limited and ingredients don't come cheap if you are not a wholesale trader. This Yann Yang should do the old ways and prepare lunch box in the morning for her kid to bring to school like the good old 60s/70s.

Ah... back in the day, my primary school canteen's Malay stall sold chicken wings at $0.50 each. Very fragrant, very juicy. Nothing I've tasted today comes close, perhaps the macik used special oil to fry or special spices to marinate. She's probably dead long ago.

Good times.

Perhaps someone can clarify. Are public school canteen meals subsidised by the government?

Not sure.
But me nephew gots some vouchers from MOE to makan.
Cant rmb the value but goodest enough for a decent school meal.

Yes, but I am curious whether the government pays for a certain portion of each meal. To help students pay less. Hence, school canteen food is usually cheaper than outside. I know they pay lower stall rent.

They should have added a small piece of banana leaf to make the nasi lemak experience more authentic, but that would probably raise the price to at least $1.60. :frown:

I think pets in Sinkieland are better fed than low SES Sinkies, what do you think?

Still no sambal ??!!!

In my era my pocket money was 10 cents per day , with that not only we managed the tuck shop but also the transport , bus fare for students was only 5 cents from one point to another ...air con was a luxury , and I don’t think we even had a fan in our class room , again we did go to schools which many of our parents never did

Wholesome school meals should be free and provided for by the state,
you'll end up with fat kids, teachers and school administrators since meals are free in some school districts, and these freeloaders keep going back in line to (help) clear the free food. "free" things lead to abuses. this is happening at oakland schools where almost everyone is either fat or getting fat.

Do they do these things in schools today?

1) Cane the student.
2) Make the student stand outside the classroom, usually carrying a heavy load.
3) Ban the student from eating as punishment.
