If you thought the 24-karat gold doughnut for US$100 in NYC was outlandish, wait until you hear about the US$2 million dollar meal in Singapore
Ce La Vi, the rooftop restaurant at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Hotel, teamed up with Russian diamond company World of Diamonds Group to offer an out-of-this-world meal that doesn't stop at just food — you also get a two-carat diamond and 10,000 roses, among other things.
According to Mashable, the expensive dinner is meant for two, and lasts eight hours.
It starts with a 45-minute helicopter ride over Singapore and a quick luxury cruise around town, before a chauffeured Rolls-Royce takes the affluent couple to the restaurant, where 10,000 roses and an 18-course meal awaits.

The extravagant menu includes dishes like Belon oysters, Almas caviar, and 44-to-55-year-old vintage wines. Of course, all of these items should be eaten with the diamond-encrusted chopsticks provided, which are engraved with the diners' names.

World of Diamonds Group has created the Jane Seymour 2.08 carat blue diamond ring.

As the grand finale, the couple will be presented with an extremely rare, two-carat blue diamond ring.
This meal is quite literally a once-in-a-lifetime experience: while only a handful of couples can afford this outlandish dining experience, World of Diamonds Group and Ce La Vi will be screening applicants to announce the lucky "winner" of this meal.

You would be more sure of getting laid by offering your date half of the $2 Million and keeping the other half for the next date.

Sounds impressive to me. He is a local, Indian and went to a local poly and now a successful businessman after only 4 years. I was impressed that he travels with bodyguards to certain places, takes helicopter etc. Not many people travel with bodyguards or in helicopters. These 2 qualities are the stand-out attributes Plus the his shirt cuffs.

Would you buy a blue, or for that matter, any diamond from this man?

Plus....nobody wants their diamonds confused with a sapphire....

Have a look at the names on the Board of Directors and Senior Management:

https://worldofdiamonds.tv/en/the-group/board-of-directors/

https://worldofdiamonds.tv/en/the-group/senior-management/

Each one of the members of senior management have a Russian connection (even the Angolan and Brazilian) except for him. And the Head of Legal is not a featherweight in terms of her claimed professional experience.

And if you have dealt with Russians before, you know they do not pander to idiocy or any of the Eastern claptrap. They may share your sentiments of awe but it would be a very interesting session for a fly on the wall at one of their meetings.

Oh, and as you know, best not to be offensive by referring to him as only a local Indian, he is Sindhi...

This is becoming even more impressive than I thought. I guess we will hear of him sooner rather than later in newsprint.

Yah, forgot about the Indian / Sindhi conundrum.

O
Local indian seems accurate to me....same as melwani.....the 'ani' seems to give it away.

Wonder how poor giorgio armani feels about this.

Anyway, looking at the board of this company, it looks like a kgb kinda set up.

Add bodyguards and flying around in copters to the mix and its obvious thats how they roll in russia....but why in singapore?

Ce la vi is owned by LCapital (indian ceo).... and this local indian might even have investment links to it.

Given my doubts of this company i wouldnt believe a word they said.

This dinner deal seems pretty shady.....either no one is buying this shitty ring or they have already found a buyer and trying to drum up some publicity....wonder what the restaurant gets out of this apart from coming across as hugely overpriced. Completely out of touch with the zeitgeist.

This is indeed a very curious organisation especially considering the kind of profile the news article has given it.

The only Singapore-based Indian who was knee deep in Russia that has been mentioned openly is Sudhir Gupta - but he had been running his tyre business like a state sanctioned oligarch until 2002 when an assassination attempt in Moscow led him to flee and embrace his Singkie citizenship. I was told back then that even Old Man was left rather baffled when he met Gupta at how he had ended up "owning" the type industry in Russia. Believe he bought a number of penthouses in Marina Bay in the mid-2000s.

But he had a Russian connection as he had studied there.

Our young poly-trained upstart is indeed a curiosity and must have diamond encrusted cajones. Based on what he's saying, he travels to Moscow regularly too so there is more to this story.

One other point, Sindhis are from both India and Pakistan just like the Punjabis - my comment was a tongue-in-cheek comment about how precious the local Sindhis always are (and in fact Sindhis everywhere) about flaunting this specific identity. Benazir Bhutto was Sindhi.
