In Pasir Ris New Town, an elderly 77 year old man died of his head injuries after falling off a HDB lift which was misaligned and stopped 20 cm above ground level.

The man had entered the lift with his back facing the door while on his mobility scooter. Without realising that the lift stopped 20 cm higher than usual, as the elderly man reversed out of the lift, he fell backwards and hit the back of his head causing a skull fracture and bleeding in the brain.

He was rushed to the hospital but 15 hours later died of his injuries.

When queried, Pasir Ris Punggol Town Council chairman said investigations into the incident was ongoing and they were checking on the lift's past maintenance record.

Alamak not the first time it has malfunctioned in this manner. Already one to two years and somebody even tripped before. What kind of maintenance standard is this? Really must wait for serious mishaps before any attention is given on residents' complaints?

The wheelchair manufacturer should be taken to court. It should have designed a back rest to have a head rest high enough to protect his head from such common incidents or old folks should wear helmets when riding such flippy vehicles.
