My son finished National Service last year and entered Nanyang Technological university (NTU)’s Engineering 2nd year program as he was a polytechnic graduate. He has been staying in the hostel and interacting with most of his foreign friends.

For many years he has been apathetic towards politics and was rather pro-PAP like his mother and always felt I was too negative and even xenophobic. In the last 6 months it seems his views have been challenged and his support for PAP is wavering, though he is still too proud to admit it.

He has begun to question and discuss with his NTU Singaporean friends on the impact of foreigners. Now he realizes that these foreigners get scholarships, free boarding and meals and even $400 allowances every month while his Dad does not have CPF and has to fork out cold cash cash for his tuition and expenses.

He even lamented that his sterling NS contribution as a combat fit officer meant little to our government. For the first time, he felt like a 2nd class citizen in his own country where he was once proud to serve and protect with his life!!!

He has begun to question and discuss with his NTU Singaporean friends on the impact of foreigners. Sometimes, it must hurt us so very intimately before we become acutely aware of the political implications. He has come a long way to even say that we now badly need an opposition in politics to check excessive pro-foreigners policies and told me a lot of his friends who will be voting for the first time have decided to vote against PAP simply because of their vested personal interests as they hear more and more horror stories of PMETs being retrenched and driving taxis.

He admits he has little confidence in his future working as an engineer with the PAP as government and doesn’t want to be a 2nd class engineer on top of being a 2nd class citizen. I am thankful at least NTU has really given my son a true education by means of an explicit negative demonstration day in and out.

I am most surprised if their score in GP is that good as to qualify for a place in NTU or NUS or any of our local U.....

Not only that. The so-called FTrash scholars are given free and dedicated Engrish tuition. Do you see the FAP Traitors spending such resources to help SGs who are weak in Engrish? That's like saying if Facebook was that good, they wouldn't need initial seed money from venture capitalists or banks to get going. Every great organization or individual starts small and got a helping hand during their early days. And that's what Singapore is doing by granting scholarships to talented individuals from all over the world.

Ths whole thing is FAP fault. If they HV not offered him the degree chamce. He would not HV succeeded to find out the perks FTS r getting from FAP. FAP should do their best to cast a titanium ceilng over him n CONvince him the diploma is good enough.

There's no certainty in investing, be it in property, start ups, stock market or any form of business. It is also the same as investing money in educating talented people. The government does it due diligence and hopes for the best. It is called 'calculated risk'. And the government hedges its bets by investing in many talented foreigners, in case a handful turns out to be disappointments or end up dead or maimed prematurely.

The problem is the investment is out of balance. They should invest in their own people and not full weight investment on foreigners. Selective investment on foreigners are okay but not in such manner of too many and too much on low quality foreign students.
