A competition for atheists to rewrite the Ten Commandments has produced this list:

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
4. Every person has the right to control over their body.
5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognise that you must take responsibility for them.
7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
9. There is no one right way to live.
10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Just because you don't believe in God doesn't mean you don't live by certain guidelines. Some atheists are humanists:

Humans are social by nature and find meaning in relationships. The joining of individuality with interdependence enriches our lives, encourages us to enrich the lives of others, and inspires hope of attaining peace, justice, and opportunity for all.

Working to benefit society maximizes individual happiness. Progressive cultures have worked to free humanity from the brutalities of mere survival and to reduce suffering, improve society, and develop global community. Humanists are concerned for the well being of all, are committed to diversity, and respect those of differing yet humane views. We work to uphold the equal enjoyment of human rights and civil liberties in an open, secular society and maintain it is a civic duty to participate in the democratic process and a planetary duty to protect nature's integrity, diversity, and beauty in a secure, sustainable manner.

Thus engaged in the flow of life, we aspire to this vision with the informed conviction that humanity has the ability to progress toward its highest ideals. The responsibility for our lives and the kind of world in which we live is ours and ours alone.

This is a fantastic thread and list, but as usual, here's a Couple Of Points: :p

1. If you are really open-minded, you have to be prepared to accept that God may exist as well, just as you have to be prepared to accept that God doesn't exist. Hence this list is not strictly speaking a list for atheists. It has to work both ways.

2. There are Two People From Singapore who need to develop some self awareness that there is no one right way to live. The First is very old. The Second is a member of this forum and has Two English Names.

1. If you are really open-minded, you have to be prepared to accept that God may exist as well, just as you have to be prepared to accept that God doesn't exist. Hence this list is not strictly speaking a list for atheists. It has to work both ways.

I have not discounted the possibility that there may be a creator out there. However, I do not believe that he sent his son to save us and that he loves all of us and he cares for all of us and that he works in mysterious ways and that if we accept JC then we are destined for heaven and if we don't we're doomed for hell.

What I find unacceptable is that they can continue to sin as long as they repent and "accept" him and everything will be hunky dory for them in the "afterlife", without having to be good people who help others. This appears simply to be an easy way out for certain characters to behave like shit when they are living as human beings on earth. Of course, this does not apply to all of them, but there are A LOT of hypocrites out there.

In the late 1990s, observations of Type Ia supernovae led to the astounding discovery that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate. The explanation of this anomalous acceleration has been one of the great problems in physics since that discovery. In this article we propose cosmological models that can explain the cosmic acceleration without introducing a cosmological constant into the standard Einstein field equation, negating the necessity for the existence of dark energy. There are four distinguishing features of these models: 1) the speed of light and the gravitational "constant" are not constant, but vary with the evolution of the universe, 2) time has no beginning and no end, 3) the spatial section of the universe is a 3-sphere, and 4) the universe experiences phases of both acceleration and deceleration. One of these models is selected and tested against current cosmological observations of Type Ia supernovae, and is found to fit the redshift-luminosity distance data quite well.​

Surely the number of nuclear bombs we have set off on this planet would have alerted any alien of man's activity on earth.the burst of radiation would have looked like mushrooms on their radar screen.surely they would have send a few UFOs to check it out.
