Tan Chye Hee is new CID chief

SENIOR Assistant Commissioner of Police
(SAC) Tan Chye Hee has assumed command of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as
Director CID with effect from Wednesday.
Mr Tan, 41, is the Director of the Police Intelligence Department (PID). He replaces Deputy Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck, 51, who will become Commissioner of Police on Jan 6 next year.
On his appointment, Mr Tan said: "With my previous background as Director PID, I aim to synergise the two key areas of investigation and intelligence. This would make SPF (Singapore Police Force) a formidable force in crime fighting."
As a priority, Mr Tan sees the unit continuing to seek the best talent to join its investigation fraternity to fight crime, including cyber-crimes and highly complex transnational organised crimes. It will also seek to deepen the competencies of investigators to combat such crimes & collaborate closely with foreign law enforcement counterparts.
Mr Tan joined the Singapore Police Force when he was awarded the SPF Overseas Scholarship in 1992. He read Engineering Science at Oxford University and graduated with a Masters degree (First Class Honours) in 1996. He was a Fulbright Fellow (2003) and has a MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (2005).
In his years of public service, Mr Tan has held various key appointments including Director Planning & Organisation Department; Deputy Director CID; and Commander Ang Mo Kio Police Division. He had also served stints in the Ministry of Home Affairs as Senior Director (Policy and Operations) and the Registrar of Societies.
Mr Hoong has served 27 years in the Police Force and has held various appointments including Director Criminal Investigation Department; Director Police Intelligence Department; and Commander Bedok Police Division. He also served a stint as Deputy Director (Enforcement) in the then Singapore Immigration & Registration Department.
