[h=1]LTA ramps up effort to get people to take up cycling[/h]

Cyclists can push their bicycles up and down using a new ramp on this overhead bridge near the Aljunied Road park connector network. The LTA will monitor such ramps’ effectiveness and could install them across Singapore. The new design is part of efforts here to encourage more people to take up cycling.

Cyclists in Aljunied are testing out a new ramp for pushing bicycles across overhead bridges.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has installed the system on one bridge near the area's MRT station and park connector network, and will monitor its effectiveness.

If successful, more of such bicycle-wheeling ramps could be installed across Singapore, it said.

Typically, several overhead bridges in Singapore have grooved slopes or small ramps running beside the steps. But some cyclists complain that these are sometimes difficult to use as they are narrow, and the bridges' railings can get in the way of the bicycles' handlebars.

i thought sinkies losers will complaining about people cycling on pavement and want it banned.. then why now they support cycling, can you bunch of losers make up your mind?

Singapore roads are not conducive for cycling. Furthermore there are too many vehicles on the roads. Buses and trains are always packed like sardines.
LTA have no idea what to do. It's just one of their lousy suggestions to commuters to beat human and vehicular congestion all over Singapore. Of course it's not going to work.

Such ramps beside the steps are not that useful. The effort is about the same. You still have to push the bike up the incline, which doesnt change. The ramp only makes it easier to roll continuously instead of lifting stepwise. I tell you it still takes a lot of strength and energy. I have used it overseas in China and Canada.

LTA should focus on elevators.

I recall one smart alec from town council placed a barrier at end of one overhead bridge ramp and crippled one unfortunate cyclist, akin to WWE clothesline execution.

More opportunities for NEA to fine cycling folks S$1000/- ,target victim : sinkie.

Another Amsterdam in the making. So in future bicycle must pay ERP or not?

Before they encouraged peasants to take up cycling they must first asked themselves if our roads are conducive for cycling.

Good riddance! Those damn cyclists should be shot! They are a public nuisance on the roads and pavements.

Of course Singaporeans have to take up cycling as transportation cost keep going up but salaries remained stagnant.

Uh u cycle more than u eat more etc etc than food cost go up than foodcourts earn big business and the cycle continues,,,
