Five Reasons Not to Travel to Singapore: This SEA Country is One to Avoid

I find the tourist numbers in Singapore pathetically low.
eg. 1) brought some guests to visit Singapore Flyer on a Saturday afternoon, nice clear weather... and there isn't even enough crowd to annoy me!
eg. 2) brought guests to Universal Studios on a weekday and none of the attraction has any queue beyond 5 minutes including the Transformers

I find the tourist numbers in Singapore pathetically low....

Why would tourists want to come to Singapore? Other than those who come for seminars, business trips, the hotels rates in Singapore are unbearably high! If the costs are not eventually covered by some profits from business, who wants to come? To do what? Eat char kwey teow? Ride mrt? No decent beaches, no mountain sceneries, nothing natural, no local culture, native folk, no ganja, no gum, shopping is expensive, imported stuff only. Just my two cents.

Cheers!

Tourism is still one of the big earners for Singapore. With this pathetic numbers of tourist i feel worried.

The govt just want low life ball-less stupid Sinkies...based on the number of sinkie morons here..they have succeeded.

This one I have to agree with you, but I beg to ask that question, are they vegetarians?

All they need are legalized prostitutes to add to the CaSINoes..but then again the 60% are already LEEgalized to do that...

I'm not in F&B or tourist industry, so it doesn't bother me, but everytime locals talk about Singapore as a tourist destination, I scratch my head and wonder why? Even the old folks tourists (like my aunties) who feels so good about visiting temples have nothing to see here in Singapore compared to other Asian countries.

Cheers!

I would say the prostitute's customers are mostly locals! One brothel-keeper once told me the bulk of his clientele are local married men, many come by for a fuck after dropping their children off at kindergartens! FTs fuck either maids or SPGs :) Cheers!

I think this writer is looking for the wrong things in the wrong places. Sg is a good place to do business. If one is looking for fun and excitement, there are many other places.

Also too bad she doesn't appreciate char kwey teow.

Cheers!

I agreed with you . Alot of tourist don't know where to have fun in Singapore . Singapore is one of the best Asian country after Japan and Taiwan . Of course things are expensive in Singapore compared to Malaysia , Thai , or other third world Asian country . so tourist who can't afford to come Singapore please stay away . It's like you choose to go Japan or eroupe for holiday but you complain that everything is expensive

Actually as a tourist destination, we are really quite exciting but only if you have $$ and not looking for red light stuff (actively). It is safe for travel with a lot of family friendly stuff to do.

The writer has "exposed" some of the things that foreigners don't like about Singapore. I agree with most of her points.

However, she did not mention that Singapore was a safer city as compared to other Asian countries.. in terms of crime.

As a travel destination, I too, think that Singapore has very little to offer NOW. Not like last time, when just opposite Centrepoint, the carpark turned into a big open-air hawker stalls.. the noise and smell.. and the FOOD.. attracted both locals and foreigners alike.

Go do Chinatown now.. and see the empty streets near Kong Sek Street.. where last time.. ppl were dining and walking up the brothels.

Laksaboy said it right on, when he mentioned that places, or even things with historical value, were torn down.. in the name of economic progress. the OLD national library was no exception. Instead of preserving the building.. it was taken down.. for ROADS.. of all things..

Why would tourists come to Sg to see high-rise buildings and fast MRTs? I'm sure most of them have these in their cities.

There doesn't seem to be any uniqueness in Sg that might attract a foreigner, who has stayed in other parts of Asia.. to settle down here until their time on Earth has expired. Not worth it. Consider the things they can do in other countries.. and what they can't do here... the stuff they can eat, read, watch and do.. and what they can't do here.. and they probably don't need a few hours to consider.. but to leave Sg.

In the pursuit of economic growth, we have lost the uniqueness.. the chance to develop a uniting culture for Singaporeans.. which could attract not just tourists.. but foreigners who have real talent.. to settle here. Being such a controlled country has given us alot of peace and some amount of stability and security.. but the price.. we are only now realizing.

tourism number in singapore consists of
the sex workers coming for short period
the 3rd world job seekers
the people who transit from europe to australia
tour group (very small)
here for business conference and training
investing in tourism in singapore is a sure way to die.

Our tourist figures include those addict gamblers who take a return trip across the causeway to get some more cash to return to the two casinos to gamble...

I always take figures given by our govt with a pinch of salt....look at the actual number of tourist
u can see in Chinatown...very pathetic..ask any businessman ..they will tell u biz is rather slow..u can see empty shops there...even on weekends...

All u see is the noisy and loud ah Tiongs .. the workers going there for their food feast there...

Thread is almost 3 yrs old, written in August 2010, if you click on source link.

That is why I am sure I have seen it before. Nothing new. Sure, written by a Cassandra James, a lady, so unless guys here can recommend toyboys. Obviously nobody brought her to Orchard towers, Geylang, H81..which anyways are not for her..
Street food available in Chinatown, Lau Pasat..

No wonder boring. Prob also tight fisted since she didnt mention MBS or RW.

Foreigners who are waiting in transit for a few hours at the Changi airport are offered free tours of Spore.
It helps to make the numbers of "visitors" look better than it is. :)
