Typical Singapore...all he cares is himself and what he can get out from this BE.
To the Candidates running for Punggol East SMC,
My name is Ricky Goh, I am one of the voters of the SMC that you are currently running for. I have been staying in the area for more than 15 years when the estate was still in a mess as it was new. The traffic out of the town then was terrible as there was only one road (Punggol Road) in and out of the estate. There were little amenities like childcares, coffeeshops, supermarkets, community areas were almost non-existence (like Community Centre, Shopping Mall, Parks, etc).
Over the recent years, there were improvements as now we have MRTs, LRTs, better bus services and 3 main roads out of the estate, Punggol Road, SengKang East Way and SengKang East Ave. With the nearby estate being built (like Compassvale, Anchorvale and Fernvale), the town has improved significantly. All these are part and parcel of a growing estate, so no matter if PAP or opposition wins the SMC, the town will still grow in order to sustain the people and businesses in the estate. Let me state that I am not afraid to vote for Opposition in this BE. This is a BE not GE, PAP is already the government even if they lose the BE. National issues are important but for BE, it is the welfare of the residents that is critical. We are concerned about the AIM saga but that is at the national level, as resident of the estate, we are more concerned about what can you as a candidate do for us?
All the candidates claimed to have heard the voices of the residents of the SMC but do they really know what the residents want? More elderly care? More childcare centres? More coffeeshop? More wet markets? All candidates say they want to do these but what is basis for all these concerns?
If they had listened carefully and understood the voice of the people, they should have realized that what we want is a lower cost of living. Singapore is too expensive. My request is simple. I just want to LOWER MY LIVING COST! I want to be able to have a meal for $3.00 which is why I want no frill hawker or coffeeshop. I want more childcare so that it will lower my children’s fee. I want wet market so that my home cooked food will be cheaper.
My vote will go to the one that can promise and able to deliver all these. Who can promise me that they can build coffeeshop/hawker in my estate? Who can promise me reasonable and good quality childcare centres like “My First Skool”? Who can promise me a wet market? The rest of the country can say that I’m selfish but end of the day, my concern is my family and the quality of life I can provide for them.
.
