there was an incident at work recently and it ended with the customer saying :

he can buy the whole steet if he wants to

for those hypocritees who think F U C K aka forncate is vulgar, F U C K you.

using money to threaten and destroy someone, a business, is truly vulgar and ugly

and these peeps who use money to assert their so called superiority are no better than scum

What was the customer implying:
That another customer (presumably his friend or relative) was rich enough to buy the street, so he should be accorded the best service without question and all the restaurant staff had to be at the most subservient?

What was the incident that led to this comment?

yes something along those lines was what he meant. and he wasn't dealing with me. i happened to be in the same space observing when this was being said.

you may have guessed that i truly detest this sort of bullying behavior from anyone, having experienced it first hand
money makes NO ONE a better person simply because they have more of it then you
i cant stand this sort of hypocrisy

if u want to know what the incident was, PM me,
its not fair to my boss and colleagues to say it out here

it happened during wc 2002 ...

A wise man once told me that money is the least of all reasons to be snobbish about.

If you don't feel comfortable relating the incident in the forum, it's fine.
The incident which led to that comment isn't that important anyway.

I'm not in the service industry so I can't comment on how people who are, should react.
But I would have considered the following responses, on hearing that comment:

1. Go and buy the street lor.
2. No need to buy the street, when he dies, he can bury his money with him.

Sometimes, people who think the world of themselves just because they have money, forget that they could drop dead the next minute.

I considered this as one of the typical sinkie behaviour. Just the sinkie still behave like this when they are not rich.

people with money always think they are invincible.

Very common among chinese in SE Asia. Usually a break or bullet to the head helps. They have no balls even to do their own fights. They have to pay someone to pay someone to do it. Some very famous richmen in SE Asia get people to burn houses to takeover the land for property development. These people have hundreds of bodyguards to talk big as well. They are aplenty in your neighboring countries.

Very Common in Singapore,,,and the one that does this best is PAP and Old Fart,,Look at Bukit Ho Swee Fire incident,,to clear the land of the squatters. And land got taken over by PAP...

If money is not an indication of superiority, then what yardstick should be used? IQ levels? EQ? Appearance? Eloquence?

Wise words indeed. Go to the streets and ask if anyone knows who John D. Rockefeller is. Then ask if they know who Albert Einstein is. Few people are famous for being rich. It is the quality of your work that people remember you for, not the number of zeroes in your bank balance.
