back in those days, it was rare to see a woman in politics.....

1) they thought she was a harmless girl?
2) someone in PAP has a soft spot for her?
3) someone in WP has a soft spot for her?

Rare for a woman to be in politics so Sylvia qualified as the chairman of WP,you say?

Please read up on politics in Singapore.There were much braver woman than Sylvia. And Sylvia's hobby is wine drinking.An anomaly of patrician class wearing Worker's cloth.

She is a total misfit.Unless,I speculate ,it's an appointment of sort where PAP places chairmanships;that it needs to control.Quite akin to Ho Ching's as Temasek Holdings,where Ho Ching's engineering background is totally unfit to manage sovereign funds.As much KL born Saw Paik Hwa,again whose degree and experience running a retail duty free shop is totally unfitting to run a public transportation system.

It's not a coincident that all are women.

Why should the voters of Hougang have to bear the responsibility of 'sending a message to the Government'?

Why do they have to do it all the time?

Many voters from other constituencies would like to 'send a message to the Government' and desire non-PAP voices in Parliament, yet they vote for the PAP overwhelmingly, time after time.

Why shouldn't it be the responsibility of say, West Coast or Radin Mas or Mountbatten or Marine Parade voter to 'send a message to the PAP'??

WP having a nice last minute surge thanks to the attacks of TCH. The remarks appeared to have opened a lot of old wounds in Hougang.

The history of HG is a history of a people repressed by the PAP. You attack in underhand way, you can expect to get retribution. People who have been persecuted before are more politically aware. PAP should know that normal rhetoric works differently in HG.

You should have been there last night at the rallies. Everytime the name Teo Chee Hean was mentioned, loud jeers were heard immediately. Even Desmond Choo's name could invoke muffled jeers at best.

That said, the days of Hougang and Potong Pasir shouldering the burden of opposition democracy is coming to an end after so many years. Aljunied will be the focus of PAP's attacks at the next GE. We await the MIW

None the wiser, I should say. Given the political landscape, the change in the poly's constitution would be seen as quite a huge compromise and raised eyebrows. If destination has been planned, questions would have been avoided by going direct after her law practice, instead of going thru poly. So why the trouble going thru poly?

Regardless, imo, it is the numericial numbers of opp represenation that should be build first, for balance. Get the balance in place interms of numbers, humans are greedy and rebellious beings. When the numbers are inplaced, it needs only a small spark to ignite intense competition amongst the lot to promote transparency and accountability.

Sgp voters should not be concern about the cloak and dagger within policitical parties for now, but must focus on balance in numerical representation.

Even if there is horse-trading among parties, it makes it more difficult if we have more than two political parties with respective sizable numbers as mps.

Than a 3 years stint iin police force only as an inspector.In her time any one with an "A' level will achieve this.Than another three years practicing law in her own daddy firm M/s Lim and Lim.

And in 2006 GE,her employer,the polytechnic...changed their constitution so that she can contest in the election.Now,everyone here knows that any person competing as an opposition candidate gets sacked by PAP.(In March 2006, Temasek Polytechnic modified its staffing policies to enable Lim to run as a candidate in the general election without having to resign her teaching position at the institution)

But the PAP made special provision for Sylvia.Why?

We will not be damned if voters vote for opps (including WP, SDP, NSP etc.) Create the numerical balance first, don't have to concen about the cloak and dagger stuff for now.

Eg,WP deliberately contested Nee Soon with an Indian candidate which it deems unfit even for a cadre-ship---which is not even worth the paper written on it.Against,the might of PAP K.Shammugam...and yet WP garnered 42% of the valid votes.Is this not a spoiler?

Don't you think PAP is lot more smarter than to allow opposition to take root?The very fact PAP created a pseudo opposition in the form of WP,is not to allow any opposition to take root at all.PAP first achieved that by ISD and imprisonment,when such acts drew international condemnation than it switched to bankruptcy....which is now also outdated.

PAP is always keeping ahead of times and preempting any genuine oppositions to take root.Hence it befalls on us to teach them a lesson.
