SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 48-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for at least three cases of snatch theft committed in Yishun.

On July 17, 2013 at about 8.20am, the 30-year-old victim reported that a man had tried to snatch her gold chain from her neck at Yishun Ring Road.

The man had followed her into the lift and tried to pull off her gold chain. The attempted snatch theft failed and the man fled from the scene.

With the aid of CCTV footage and investigative probes, the culprit's identity was established. On July 18, 2013 at about 4.30 pm, the officers spotted the culprit and arrested him at Yishun Avenue 4.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect could also be involved in two other cases of snatch theft in June 2013, also in Yishun, where victims' gold chains were snatched.

The suspect will be charged in Court on July 20, 2013 for an offence of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a maximum of 7 years' imprisonment and caning.
