Woman charged with maid abuse

A FORMER estate agent was charged on Thursday with seven counts of abusing a Myanmar maid who was employed by her mother.
Wendy Seow Wei Leng, 31, allegedly caused hurt to Ms Aye Aye Kyu, 23, at a Bedok flat between March and September last year. She is said to have either punched, poked or slapped the maid and hurled items such as a packet of pork at her.
Seow was represented by Mr Rakesh Vasu, who told the court that he had just been briefed and would be making representations.
The case was adjourned for a pre-trial conference on Dec 27. If convicted, she faces a jail term of up to three years and/or a fine of up to $7,500 on each charge.
