SBS to compensate family of woman dragged by bus at Sengkang Rd

A 66-year-old woman died after she was hit then dragged by an SBS bus on Tuesday (April 3). The public bus operator says it will cover the cost of sending her body back to Malaysia.

Madam Chan Ah Yong was crossing the road at the junction of Sengkang East Way and Compassvale Road at 11.20am on Tuesday when she was hit by SBS Transit Bus Service 159, which was making a right turn at the junction.

According to an article in AsiaOne, SBS Transit spoke to Madam Chan's son-in-law on Wednesday to convey the message. Before the offer could be made however, the son-in-law requested that the company contact him again the following week.

SBS Transit respected his request, but has since communicated its offer to the family.

In an earlier report, Madam Chan's younger daughter, 33-year-old Kenix Lau, said SBS Transit told her to submit a proposal to their management when she approached the company about compensation. Ms Lau thought this was 'rather absurd' considering the circumstances.

Madam Chan's family wants the funeral to be held in Seremban where her father and two brothers live.

Madam Chan is a Malaysian on a long-term visit pass to Singapore. She has been staying with Ms Lau's family, consisting of her husband and two young children, as well as her elder daughter Candy Lau for nearly three years. Their flat is just 350m from where Madam Chan was killed.

In a yellow box junction, there's a always a situation when the red light for the vehicle turning is on and green light for pedestrian crossing the other side is also on, no arguement. Pedestrian right of way. But there's also always a situation when the green arrow for a vehicle to turn is on but the pedestrian still wants to cross since the red light for directly oncoming (not turning) traffic is also on. Basic theory and humanity say motor vehicle give way to the pedestrian, even if without any pedestrian crossing. That's not the mentality with PRC drivers. My right of way is my right of way. You want to try, better run fast before you die.

Instead of government subsidising the buses purchases for them,i rather they use the money to teach SBS bus drivers to drive properly or get better drivers.Bus break down, can still repair and drive later, people mati, they will sleep eternally.

Tiong fucker:

By the way, Sengkang is infested with these Tiong scums, the situation there is just as bad as Jurong East/West and pockets of Outram Park/Chinatown.

Which makes sense, because Sengkang was built specifically to accommodate the extra population from 'new citizens'. Since India Indians prefer to stay in the Marine Parade/East Coast area, obviously Sengkang was the natural choice of these 'new families'.

And eat into SBS's profits? No chance in hell that's going to happen. It does not adhere to the 'cheaper, better, faster' principle.

A peasant's life is cheap, probably just as cheap as an NS slave's life.
