20150401 Wasn’t PM Lee as disrespectful as Amos Yee?
April 1, 2015 by phillip ang

Quite a number of Singaporeans seem to know only how to kow tow to the powers that be but quick to whack a powerless citizen.

Video still available online at link below.

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=808434335876550&set=vb.181333458586644&type=2&theater

Amos is entitled to his opinion of anyone and he appears to be more politically mature compared to much older adults whose comments were childish. What he should have done was leave out the profanities and reference to religion but after all, he is only a teenager.

We need citizens like Amos who are fearless and speak their minds. It is sad to see many Singaporeans who grew up in a climate of fear under LKY have continued to live in its shadow. Amos Yee would probably have said “Singaporeans all talk, got no balls”. Are you one of them?

An inconvenient truth – LKY did not earn but demanded respect through the use of propaganda to create fear. A list of leaders who had earned our respect includes our people’s president Ong Teng Cheong, Goh Keng Swee, Rajaratnam, etc. In death, Singaporeans have continued to remember and respect them for their contributions. No need for propaganda.

The disrespect shown to LKY is partly in response to PAP’s propaganda – without LKY, Singapore would have gone to the dogs. LKY has his place in Singapore’s history but he is never ‘right up there’ as PAP would like the world to believe. Many Singaporeans would like to believe in PAP’s narrative of our history but it has to be conditional upon the release of all archived documents and total transparency from every government institution, especially HDB, GIC and Temasek Holdings.

It is timely for the PAP to reflect on LKY’s errors instead of continued denial and using legal means to fix political opponents. PAP should apologise, compensate if necessary and only then will it regain the moral authority to govern.

When opposition politician J B Jeyaretnam passed away in 2008, PM Lee wrote a ‘condolence’ letter to his sons which contain the following sentences:

– “he and the PAP never saw eye to eye on any major political issue and he sought by all means to demolish the PAP and our system of government”
– “this helped neither to build up a constructive opposition nor our Parliamentary tradition”

Wasn’t PM Lee as disrespectful as Amos Yee? In any truly democratic country, such a leader would have been lambasted and disgraced.

After attacking a dead man, PM Lee painted a magnanimous PAP by describing how Goh Chok Tong, ex PM, had helped to ensure Singaporean employers did not discriminate against Kenneth because he was the son of JBJ. (see PM Lee’s letter below post)

Some of the comments on PM Lee’s ‘condolence’ letter on mrbrown.com:

“Instead of condolence, the letter wants to put in another (final) attack on him”
“Disgusting, graceless, undignified, bitter, petulant and unnecessary”

“Let me help summarise the letter in Mr Brown style…

Dear Boys,

your dad no good.

Goh and me, we’re your friends.

Sorry.

LHL”

PM Lee had also stated “our differences were not personal”. After watching an archived video of PM Lee kena grilled by JBJ during a TV debate on the elected president in 1988, it appears more likely PM Lee was extremely personal. I suspect he has not gotten over the deeply embarrassing grilling session which left him speechless, requiring Goh Chok Tong to come to his rescue on a number of occasions.

Singaporeans should watch this video to better understand why PAP prefers to have wayang debates in a farce world parliament. Just look at some of the ministers who talk Khawk in parliament – they would not have been able to hold a candle to JBJ.

Although Amos is only a teenager, his political maturity and fearlessness really put most adults to shame. He has spoken what most of us only dare to think or whisper in a quiet corner. With age, Amos should become emotionally mature. An Amos Yee without profanities and sensitive to racial/religious issues deserves the support of right minded Singaporeans.

As has been confirmed by PM Lee’s ‘condolence’ letter, his disrespect was totally uncalled for. Those who have lectured Amos on respect, if they are not sycophants, should direct their exact comments at PM Lee as well.

PS

Is this a condolence letter written by a head of state or a vindictive person?

Dont have to go that far back just take the pinoy flag incident n his outburst will do. This is the atmosphere of bullying that is prevalent in many ministries. Those who have dealings with them will know what i meant about little lky.

PM Lee was speaking the truth about JBJ. In what way was that disrespectful?

Pompous would be the word, now, his daddy has gone over there...there is already a group waiting at cup de sac lead by JBJ....Amos was stating the truth abet mentioning names....an orchestrated outpouring of support for a deceased person, doesn't mean a thing.........the critics & enemies are just being respectful that is the mark of a great man.

But, as days roll by....the punches will be thrown...Dr.M has already started the comment on, "being Kiasu & hanging on to a baggage of separation"....more to come....we shall see, what is respectful!.

If few people turned up to pay their last respects to Mr. LKY, you guys would probably say that this shows how widely hated LKY [and PAP] is. And I have enough friends who said that the day LKY died, people would be throwing parties to celebrate his demise.

Then if a lot of people turned up to pay their last respects to Mr. LKY, you guys say that it is all orchestrated.

You really are that biased and think too highly of yourself. In Singapore, you are free to surf the net and read news from other sources, including TRS, sammyboy, international media. This is not China or North Korea, where internet access is restricted. There are lots of critical articles about LKY and PAP on the internet. People are free to criticize LKY and lampoon him for his [perceived] incompetence. But yet people still willingly turn up to brave the elements and to pay their last respects.

There's no winning with you. No matter what the outcome, you will always be disastisfied. Are you that much of a bitter loser in life, where you have a cynical reply to everything?

Internet not restricted my foot! Local sites commenting on politics have to be approved by PAP government. A team from sinkapore is learning from the Chinese how to implement a Great Wall for the internet.

Waiting for the next GE. We'll then see how people feel really about the PAP?

Some claim that the PAP will get sympathy votes but I think Sporean are pragmatic & they'll vote based on their pocket books. Who is going to vote for a party who makes so many "honest mistakes" & breaking people's rice bowls.

I have made my mark in life without the PAP, with or without, does not really matters, life is a struggle, we have to learn to adapt & be adept in making changes & all these can be better, without a burdensome, bothersome government. I grew up with the late LKY, I respect the man, that has done more than enough for us; in other words, know him as a leader, good points , warts & all.

I can say, I come from that generation, with a "backbone"...like those old people, you once see in Chinatown, bending over, selling whatever small things they can sell to survive & be proud of it...it is people like you, with no 'backbones". LEEch off the system.

One cannot pull wool over people's eyes that, the outpouring of support during the funeral procession, are orchestrated by the PA, RC.s schools etc... OK! fair, a number, went on their own accord...what I am saying is..." a wayang".

He has done a lot for is, without him, we would not be getting what we have today, can we deny this, no!...but, there are many policies & the way he does things, many of us find it unpalatable...can't please everyone...could say, it doesn't pleases me. Like I had mentioned...I had sat through many of speeches he gave when he started & till.....the family are fervent supporter of LKY...it was compulsory for the TV to be on...when he speaks...

But I beg to differ....enough is enough!..and finally we had to say, thank you & goodbye...period! who is loser or a winner...that is subjective..but if you think, you can still shaft whatever that is down people's throat in this ever changing world....you are the loser....we all have made it!
