The hot weather will make sure the crowds stay away.... Make more fans or like the Los Angeles theme park.... have some fans that spray a mist of water... that willl sufficiently cool the tourists and visitors...

they should convert the whole island into Snow LAND! Then it'll be packed day and night, 24 hours day...A phenomenal success!!!

13/3/2010 to 21/3/2010 were the March school holidays. If attendance so poor, then it looks like theme park is really in trouble. RWS will need to lobby hard to get the $100 levy circumvented so that the casino operations can cover the hole. If not approved, increasingly likely that there will be cash flow crunch.

It is only a matter of time before RWS goes under.

In any case the major shareholder is not anxious at all for he's recovered all of his investments from a number of
rights and bond issues on Gentings S'pore, and his acceptance of huge kick-backs from the $6.5b construction.

RWS should be ok once they allow the levy to be circumvented.
Many people waiting patiently for this to happen.

The authorities will never abolish the $100 entrance fee.

To-date no junket license has been issued yet, so those foreign high-rollers are not visiting the casino at RWS.

Today has reported that the main attraction at the theme park has been closed down. The "glitch" was so serious that the police withdrew the license to operate the ride.

Looks like even more pressure for RWS to get approval to circumvent the $100 levy.

Many people patiently watching ...

SINGAPORE - A week since it opened to the public, Universal Studios Singapore's (USS) star attraction, the Battlestar Galactica rollercoaster ride (picture), has been closed due to a glitch.

A technical problem was discovered on one of the ride vehicles during routine pre-opening testing yesterday morning, said Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in a statement.

The theme park immediately closed the ride "in keeping with our commitment to employee and guest safety", RWS said, adding that it could remain closed "for several days or longer" and would not operate until the problem's cause and solution are determined.

No one was injured and the relevant authorities were informed, it added. Experts from the ride's design, engineering and manufacturing company are helping with the probe and any action that needs to be taken.

The Battlestar Galactica is touted as the tallest duelling coaster in the world - standing at 42.5m - and part of the ride features an inverted roller coaster track, while another reaches speeds of up to 90kmh.

Visitors yesterday were informed before they bought tickets to the park that the ride was closed, according to a newspaper report, but tourists still paid the entry fee to try out the other attractions.

The police, responding to queries, said the Conformity Assessment Body would have to work with Universal Studios Singapore to determine the problem's cause, "recommend rectification and re-certify the safety of the ride for public use, before the licence can be reinstated".

RWS stressed that every attraction "meets or exceeds industry guidelines" and must meet the approval of local regulatory agencies. In addition, all rides undergo a "daily series of detailed inspections and testing before the park opens" to ensure all safety systems are working properly.

It added: "We understand some guests may be disappointed; however, the safety of our employees and guests remains our top priority."

I dun understand what is the hoohaa over the 'poor crowd'. It has already been announced even before the theme park opens, that they are limiting the visitors during the initial phrases so that they can smooth out the hitches during this period.

And that is why they are giving out some rebates for visitors during this period. So stop these needless fanning....

It is well known that this PAP gahmen have no clue how to draw tourists.
I travel on holidays extensively worldwide and in the Asean Region often. The tourists are all over the other Asean countries except Singapore. And even if they come they will just stay for a short transit only. Many rather spend a week in Phuket, Pattaya or Hua Hin in Thailand, or on the beaches in Bali or Cebu. Or even in Vung Tau.
Often on planes from Europe I meet people travelling to Australia and just in transit at Changi.

If everything is macro managed it is one sure way to kill a country, and I am not talking about just tourism.

WTF! paying so much as a local just to go Universal Studios. For June holidays i am bringing family to HK disneyland, rather dump my money in HK then in this RWS!! To all compatriots boycott RWS.

Based on the Today report, the vistorship is only about 20% of the expected. RWS claims that this is "planned". Looks like more pressue to circumvent the $100 levy so that RWS won't go under.

Crowds 'managed'

SINGAPORE - They had turned up expecting to jostle with swarms of eager fellow visitors to Singapore's newest theme park.

But many at Universal Studios Singapore's soft opening yesterday were surprised to see relatively thin crowds.

Up until noon, three-and-a-half hours after doors were thrown open with a loud lion dance procession, there were hardly any queues at the 18 rides on offer.

Most of the rounds made by the duelling roller coasters Battlestar Galactica - arguably the 20-hectare park's star attraction - were about a quarter filled, MediaCorp observed.

Resorts World Sentosa declined to divulge first-day visitor numbers, citing constraints as a listed company.

But according to two sources close to the ground, about 3,000 visitors were expected, one-fifth the eventual daily visitorship predicted by some analysts.

RWS spokesman Robin Goh said visitorship had been "intentionally managed".

"This is the soft opening phase, we have limited number of tickets this week. We are using this to stress test the system but not overstress it so that visitors also get a good experience," he said, adding that numbers would be gradually ramped up to full capacity.

Nurse Andrea Tiew, who was there with a friend, said: "I was expecting to see more crowds and even celebrities. It would have added to the excitement."

But project manager Francis Lee, there with his wife, kids and sisters-in-law, had a different take: "With the lack of queues, you lose a bit of the atmosphere. But it's good if you're only here for the rides."

What got a definite thumbs-up: The rides. Those who survived Battlestar Galactica emerged with a wide grin and overheard were shouts of "best ride ever".

RWS' parent company Genting Group's chairman Lim Kok Thay said USS would be kept fresh, with at least one major ride to be introduced every year for the next three years.

Next year, a Transformers attraction featuring robotics and new rides will be unleashed.

Asked if RWS would do anything to increase casino attendance - a reference to media reports of lower-than-expected figures - Mr Lim replied: "We have not released any numbers for the casino, so I'm not sure where the low number comes from ... if you read my lips, I'm smiling. So, let's say things have been on track and I expect it to go even above our expectations."

Meanwhile, USS threw in a late surprise by allowing non-paying visitors in yesterday evening for two hours, after the rides closed at 6pm.

Visitors were, however, only allowed to patronise retail outlets along Hollywood Boulevard.

To top the night off, everyone was treated to a pyrotechnics display at 8pm.

Wonder how Universal Studio is doing now? Guess no more visitors, so no one know first hand how's it doing?

Based on their press release, Marina Sands is opening on 27 April 2010. With its more accesible location, I think the Marina Sands will suck away 50% or more of the casino crowd from RWS. With the theme park having problems, how to survive if they don't allow circumvention of the $100 levy?

Watching patiently ...

Good! Nobody will come. There's no life and happy atmosphere in Sinkapore. It will be the 1st Universal Studio in Universal Studios histroy to close down. In asia, the one is Osaka and the new upcoming one in Seoul will be the main attractions in Asia.

Too bad. Boo hoo.
