Type 2 Diabetes In Youth Predicted To Rise By Almost 700% By 2060

The United States could witness a massive increase in type 2 diabetes among young people in the coming years, based on the latest research.

A new study published in the American Diabetes Association journal Diabetes Care showed a grim future for the country’s youth. According to the researchers, the number of teens with type 2 diabetes could rise by nearly 700% by 2060.

The team made a mathematical model based on data from the calendar years 2002-2017 to project the future prevalence of the different types of diabetes among youth aged below 20.

After analyzing their data, the researchers said that as many as 526,000 young people could have diabetes by 2060. Over the next four decades, they anticipate the number of youth with type 2 diabetes to jump by 673% and cases of type 1 diabetes among the youth to increase by 65%.

Even if the rate of new diabetes cases among the youth remained unchanged in the coming years, type 2 diabetes affecting young people could still increase by 70% and type 1 diabetes by 3% by 2060, according to MedicalXpress.

While analyzing the model, the team, which included scientists from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), noticed that Black, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander and Native American/Alaska Native children have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than White people.

The marked increase in cases is expected to be caused by two major factors: the rising rates of childhood obesity and the presence of diabetes in young pregnant women.

"This study's startling projections of type 2 diabetes increases show why it is crucial to advance health equity and reduce the widespread disparities that already take a toll on people's health," Christopher Holliday, Ph.D., MPH, FACHE, the director of CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation, said in a press release obtained by Medscape.

“This new research should serve as a wake-up call for all of us. It's vital that we focus our efforts to ensure all Americans, especially our young people, are the healthiest they can be," Debra Houry, MD, MPH, the acting principal director of the CDC, added.

I think it's rather possible. I know many people who suffer from diabetes, including my brother and grandfather. I Buy Trulicity Online for them but also it's important to make some changes in lifestyle. Keeping a healthy lifestyle is a good option to prevent this disease. Just limit sugar intake and be physically active.
Genes can also play apart, those with family history have higher risk factors. Do watch out

The solution is very, very simple just skip breakfast and cut down on sugar and carbs.

I now have breakfast/lunch at 3 pm and dinner at 7 pm. From 8 pm to 3 pm the next day I fast. Water, black coffee or black tea only.

The first few days is tough but once you work it into the daily routine this revised eating schedule becomes easier and easier to follow as time goes by.

Forget the "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" mantra. It came from a campaign funded by Kelloggs for obvious reasons.

It was a marketing slogan

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is nothing more than a marketing slogan, and a really good one at that. The saying is widely attached to cereal genius Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and fellow 7th Day Adventist James Caleb Jackson and their efforts to promote breakfast cereal (via Day Two). But they weren't the first to say it. The Daily Telegraph credits dietitian Lenna Cooper with using this phrase in a 1917 article for Good Health magazine, which was published by a Michigan sanitarium directed by Kellogg. And it clearly has made its impact on consumers. Fast-forward to the present day, and cereal is still a part of our daily morning meal routine. The proof is in Kellogg's profits. The food giant made $1.4 billion U.S. dollars in profit in 2019 off its cereals and convenience foods (via Statista).

But like with all good ideas, throughout the years, others have jumped on the magic of breakfast being the most important meal of the day campaign which has only further ingrained the concept in our culture. Today we enjoy bacon and eggs, avocado toast, pancakes, yogurt and granola, and a host of breakfast sandwiches and burritos that confirm not just our love for this morning meal, but that we bought in to – or were maybe brainwashed by – the slogan that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
