TWO men were charged separately in court on Thursday with causing death by dangerous driving.
Lim Chor Kiang, 43, a bouncer, is accused of three charges - causing the death of his two rear cabin passengers and injuring two 18-year-old girls in his van along Upper Paya Lebar Road at about 5am on May 4, 2009.
He allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and at a fast speed which resulted in the vehicle hitting the centre median road kerb.
The van then flipped over before skidding towards the left, hitting an electric grid box.
The accident resulted in the deaths of Mr Kang Tze Chiang, 35, unemployed, and bouncer Lin Jian Yan, 31.
He is alleged to have caused grievous hurt to rear-cabin passenger Cheong Fang Fan and hurt to front-seat passenger Grace Yeo Yoke Cheng by committing an act so rashly as to endanger lives.
In the other case, Yeo Teck Chye, 45, allegedly caused the death of Mr Lim Kim Toon, 58, while driving a prime mover along Telok Blangah viaduct towards Keppel Road at almost 100kmh in excess of his vehicle's 60kmh speed limit.
Mr Lim, a passenger of a motor lorry which had broken down, was diverting traffic when he was knocked down.
