Taipei, Feb. 21 (CNA) A TransAsia Airways flight on a domestic route from Taipei to Makung was forced to turn around Saturday after the pilots received an engine warning alert, but it turned out to be a problem with the aircraft's warning system, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said.

Soon after the departure of Flight GE507 from Taipei Songshan Airport at 12:46 p.m., a warning signal appeared on the cockpit display, indicating a torque problem on the No. 1 engine, according to the CAA.

The pilots turned around the ATR72-500 aircraft and returned to the Songshan airport at 1:03 p.m., the CAA said.

After inspection, however, it was determined that the problem was not the engine but rather the aircraft's warning system, the CAA said.

TransAsia has grounded the plane and has informed the manufacturer of the problem, the CAA said.

A TransAsia Airways flight crashed into the Keelung River soon after takeoff from Songshan Airport on Feb. 4, killing 43 of the 58 people on board.
