Temasek Review: Where do we go from here?

Dear readers

The latest intended gazetting of The Online Citizen is worrying but not without “understandable” reasons (TOC to be gazetted as a Political Association) . We saw it coming and the team at TOC should have too.

Given the “notice” from the Prime Minister’s office, TOC will either have to comply with the gazetting and allow both of its hands to be tied behind its back in future, subject to close monitoring by the local authorities or disband itself.

Eitherway, TOC will no longer be able to keep to its promise of offering a free and independant platform for Singaporeans to voice out their concerns nor champion the cause of Singaporeans without fear of repression and prosecution.

It is indeed a sad day for Freedom of Speech and Democracy in Singapore and we believe the paranoid ruling party will not stop at TOC. Temasek Review (TR), being the lone standing Social-Political blog for voiceless Singaporeans will be next.

We firmly believe that no efforts will be spared and no laws will be left un-abused to shut us down prior to the General Election which has to be held this year given the limited time frame available to the ruling party, effectively leaving the de facto local media to whitewash Singaporeans with their whiter-than-white propoganda.

Temasek Review was setup with the sole purpose of providing an independant platform for voiceless Singaporeans to exchange, share and discuss issues that affect their daily lives (within the confines of applicable laws) and we intend to keep it status quo.

Understandably, it has been an uphill task given the limited resources we have considering that we are a non-profit site. The constant badgering and haressment from “certain agency” and the increased traffic isn’t helping our cause at all. The expected “demise” of TOC will mean more traffic and “attention” will be heading our way.

With the recent “assasination” of TOC, we are forced to again re-evaluate our position and plan ahead for every possible scenarios.

To not compromise our intended plan, we will generalise our intended course of action as follows:

1. We will be setting up a legal entity (in an offshore island with tight privacy laws) through a proxy to absorb our site Temasek Review. The island/country chosen will be under the advisement of a Hong Kong law firm which one of our editors will be retaining .

2. We will be instructing our host to setup and deploy 2 more dedicated servers in Russia and Korea or maybe Sweden to mirror our site. Our present site is mirrored in real time internally (ie: same DC through a load balancer and synced) but we intend to mirror it in real-time in different country, a network mirror on individual domain name.

3. There are further plans which we cannot reveal for the time being and has yet to be finalised but we seek the trust and understanding of our readers to not ask.

All the above plan will most likely cost us more than US$8,000 and we are openly seeking reader’s assistance to help us realise it. Our editorial team will also be contributing a certain amount towards the “project”.

Any readers who believe and trust our cause may donate through their debit or credit card (via an independant UK processor) from the below form or the donation widget on the side bar. Please do not donate if you are in doubt or uncomfortable with the arrangement.
Non-recurring donation can be made with Debit or Credit card through MoneyBookers and all information provided will remain STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL with our processor, we will only have your email address.
