Are ST’s top 10 ‘Singaporean’ questions to ask PM Lee really reflective?
September 22nd, 2012 | Author: Editorial

PM Lee
Straits Times’ Singapolitics site recently conducted an online “Ask the PM” exercise to get netizens to submit questions that they would like to ask PM Lee as part of the National Conversation initiative.

After 2 weeks of solicitation, only about 400 emails were received over a period of 2 weeks earlier this month.

Straits Times then short-listed 25 of them for netizens to vote. The voting started on Mon (17 Sep) and ended yesterday (21 Sep). After 5 days of voting with more than 20,000 votes collected, Straits Times then selected the top 10 questions from the 25 to ask PM Lee.

In a Straits Times news report today (22 Sep), it touted, “Singaporeans had chosen 10 top questions (to ask PM).”

Mr Lee’s replies will be taped and put up by Straits Times in a series of videos next week. Straits Times proudly proclaimed in its news report, “(This) is an exclusive event run by Straits Times.”

Following are the top 10 questions picked by Straits Times out of the short-listed 25, according to their poll results:

1. How will you ensure the cost of living in Singapore remains manageable? How will you keep healthcare affordable? (10%)

2. Can we really have work-life balance? (7%)

3. Can we change the model of public houseing so it is a home, and not an investment asset? (6%)

4. We are trying to help parents look after children, what are we doing to help children look after elderly parents? (6%)

5. What is the limit to our population size? What do you, as PM, think is the optimum size? (6%)

6. Can the Govt do more for those with special needs? It should sign the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. (6%)

7. Can we do more for those in the 50s and 60s who have been retrenched or are being rehired at lower pay? (5%)

8. Having a childhood is good in theory, but how do we reduce the reliance on exams? For example, do we need the PSLE? (4%)

9. Where do you see Singapore in 20 years’ time? What will our niche be? Will Parliament still be dominated by the PAP? (4%)

10. Could a percentage of a citizen’s CPF account be set aside for unemployment insurance? (4%)

Strangely, some of the hot topics which the netizens have been talking about on alternate sites in the last few years are missing from the questions. For example, questions related to the following hot issues frequently discussed in social media were not present:

over-influx of foreigners in Singapore and job competitions
wage depression
infrastructure overload
more education places in local universities
income inequality
asset inflation and runaway housing cost
media control
ISA
scrapping of GRCs
high electoral deposits
independent election commission
domination of GLCs in economy
over-dependence of MNCs in economy
low productivity
not enough CPF to retire
literally having to work to old age and die at work
actual reserves we have
etc
Can the Straits Times really claim that those 10 questions were actually the top ones chosen by Singaporeans to ask PM Lee?

now u know why it's a CONversation and not an authentic conversation :(

the purpose is to convince the people about their doings. then confuse them about what they really think or feel in their guts. finally to CON them that their policies benefits voters more and in the end pap wins in the next GE:(

why do they need more new immigrants to be naturalised as singaporeans? the fact is si mple. they need these new pirated singapore citizens to vote for them in the next GE. more singaporeans are getting to be real pissed and it shall show in their votes.

all these are just a backup conspiracy of the pap. they wanna stay in power and they need to do something fast and drastic. if not there would be surely a change of dynasty.

this national CONversation is not listening sincerely to the citizens. it's an event that is in fact the reversal. the pap wants the citizens to listen to them, hear them explain so that they can confuse, convince and finally con which is why it's call CONversation.

everything shall remain as per normal according to what's in the pap's sinister agenda. their agenda is rather simple. they want:

1. more slaves. if the locals can't breed like rabbits to supply them, then it would be up to naturalised pirate-singaporeans (NPS) to carry out the duties.
2. they need more voting supports. again we sgporeans are gradually getting more pissed with them, they would need the NPS to accomplish their victory. NPS are given voting rights after they have leegalised into pirated-copy singaporeans.
3. do they bother how sardined the mrt or the buses are? who cares! that's not their concern.

there are many issues that affect singaporeans in their daily life, many of these are not being even addressed.

1. why does hawker centres being compulsory upgraded? for the benefits of citizens or benefit of whoever that's going to raise stall rentals and make hawker foods too expensive for the average man?
2. they raise many vitals that we need except the pays. they think we do not need more pays to coup with their raising almost every damn things. that by the way is their conspiracy to keep the majority under their mercy.

there are so many many more......i let u guys share all ur grouses. along the way, maybe i would highlight. if there aren't any more opinions, well, then presumably many either agree or simply clueless or totally deluded and lost for words.

my gut wrenching question for pinky

how could holy cow pay only $8 for open heart surgery when an average sgporeans has to pay $10.50 for a less than 5mins consultation with a polyclinic doctor? by the way, that time-wasting consultation is after at least an hr wait.

why does the gov stupidly allow holycow to brag about it? to con more into their national medishield ponzi?

big mistake! many like me are just pissed by that. with his million $ pay, he still get to rant about such cheapskate medical bill and that is with all his official obscene fringe benefits thrown in.

where does that leave an average singaporean?

holycow's medical bill might be boasted at $8 but the bigger sum of money i believe were paid by the citizens.

IS THIS FAIR? the affordable rich pay so bloody little while the poor has to cough out their bloody entire saving for a medical condition. this proves the heartlander's saying:

WE CAN DIE BUT CANNOT AFFORD TO FALL SICK.

we should cut the wifey screwing details and concentrate on the nation screwing instead. remember the motto of GST: no one will be left behind (being screwed)

if pinky heeds our call for rectification, soon we shall see and witness these:

1. less crowded mrt and buses
2. prices of hawker foods coming down
3. no more unreasonable increases to medical bills, school fees, transport fares....etc
4. definitely no more increase to their already obscene million $ pays
5. more social welfare to poor and needies
6. more privileges and fringe benefits to senior folks

and plenty more of the heartfelt consolation. definitely not like giving u a miserable GST payout followed immediately with more crazy increases. WE DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT THAT!!
