Today sure got people strike. Assuming 3 million people buy, the chance of striking is 1 in 3 million.

dude, I am not sure it is calculated that way.

anyway, reading through the sad stories of those sad winners. Any winner(s) here, including myself, please remember Rule Number One when strike big prizes.

TELL NO ONE. Dump the money in the bank. Take a breather of one or two months to think about how to spend the money. Let the initial emotion die down first before using the $$.

Dude, statistically, it is not incorrect. If 3 million people buy in the same draw, you should have 1winner. This is probability theory.
However, I agree that if you are a winner, do not make hasty decision. Allow some cooling period and don't anyhow trust people. cheers.

Sigh! People will never learn, even after the financial collapse.

Luke 12:15-31 (New International Version)

15Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '

20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

Singapore Pools take out 54% of the collection to be distributed as prizes for TOTO. So every draw, Singapore Pools make 46%.

Top prize is 33% of the 54%. So taking the last draw which top prize is $3.23 million and making some calculations, Singapore Pools made $8.33 (ie the 46%) during that draw. Guaranteed makan by them.

The Group 1 Prize is guaranteed at a minimum of $500,000.

Prize Group Winning Numbers Matched Prize Amount
1 6 numbers 33% of prize pool
2 5 numbers plus the additional number 13% of prize pool
3 5 numbers 13% of prize pool
4 4 numbers plus the additional number 13% of prize pool
5 4 numbers $30 per winning combination
6 3 numbers plus the additional number $20 per winning combination

* Prize pool amount effective from Draw 1873/2004.

Lotteries all over the world function as conduits of redistribution of wealth and collection of donations from the willing, which is taxed by the government to provide infrastructure to benefit the people. It is a triple-win mechanism from the macro perspective, the best of PPPs, and one of the older known forms of PPPs.
